If you can find a range to fire them
9mm, 40 cal, 45 cal before you buy. I would suggest it

    Each one shoots differently.
Find the one that fits YOU

The rebate runs through the end of June so I'd definitely wait a week to see what kinda sales are going on. Granted with the rebate I kinda doubt that anybody will have a Shield on sale, no harm in waiting though.

I'm not sure what it's like to shoot a small, light weight, single stack .45, but I would highly recommend the Springfield XDm .45 Compact. The only drawback/con is the grip can be rough on your palm if you shoot 200 rounds in an hour, like I've done.

When I bought my Glock, everyone said get the 26,m got to be the 26, don't get anything but the 26.....................

Oldest son said you will hate the 26, go try it. Shot the 26, could not get it back on target quickly.

    Shot the 19,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,loved it
    bought it
    love it

Moral of this story is simple..................what works for me, might not work for you. A gun, especially a pistol, is a very personal purchase.....................walk thru the steps so at the end you have a pistol that feels right to you, and it will be the one you use regularly.

Not a fan of the Shield 40. My GF has one and i would much rather shoot my Taurus PT111 Gen 2. Thats just my opinion.

dude just buy one of each (and by one of each I mean a 9 w/ and w/o a safty and a 45 in the same, might as well get the 40's while you are at it) 6 new guns sounds like a good idea, plus to throw some female logic into this argument, you would be saving $450 with rebates:drevil:

My shield 40 is very snappy, and with it being so thin (damn single stack) it took me a while to get used to it, especially most of my shooting previous was a bigger pistol, all double stacks..................

If I didn't live where I live, might bust the bucks for a 9 mm.......................just cause I don't have one.

plus I think you get MO rounds in a mag with a 9mm, than 40 or 45....................

    but I agree with @yota243

    with one more caveat

    get ALL six
    shoot them all
give me the ones you don't love!

If those are your options I can say from experience choose the Shield or really anything else. Taurus has terrible reputation for a reason. My buddy has the Pt111 and although it seems fine for the price, I do not trust my life with a Taurus. They have poor quality control and they deserve the bad rep. I would rather have an old surplus type handgun than a Taurus. EDIT: I'm not being a Shield fanboy because I own one, I am here to give unbiased advice.

I have the PT111 Gen 2 and I love it. Its a little wider than the Shield and therefore fits my hand better. Ive put over 1000 rounds through it from cheap reloads to mid range and never had any issues. My GFs Shield did not like the reloads and jammed 3 times on a 50 box.

Handle them both. I'm pretty sure the 45 is slightly bigger than the 9 so it might be more comfortable to hold, plus the 45 has the "2.0" grip texture that is on the new M&Ps which you might like more.

Or buy the 45 for you and the 9 for the wife :D

From what Ive read the first gen had issues but they seemed to have worked them out with the gen2. Ive had absolutely 0 issues with mine.

Rebate is good until the end of June, so I'd wait and see, but I can't imagine prices dropping any further. That said, I bought my MP15 last month for $525, and now I'm seeing them for $499.

Hey man, I believe it. There is never a 100% guarantee on products. From a bigger point of view it makes more sense to get something that isn't a Taurus. I've seen more have issues(On the interwebs) than any other big/popular weapon manufacturer. I've also seen plenty that have never had a hickup. That's bad quality control. You got lucky it sounds like
