    v6 or Inline 4?

It's not that bad, I did it on my 2.7l i4. Took about an hour or two. Just remove the stock assembly, resonator (I think it's called?), remove the vacuum lines, bolt on the K&N, re-attach the vacuum lines to the CAI, and you're done. Keep in mind it's completely different for the v6.

The hardest part will probably be the heat shield, and getting it aligned properly. Many moons ago, I had this really weird knocking noise on acceleration (from a stop) on my 04 v6. Thought it was loose A-arm bushing, drive line, or something else suspension related... Eventually found out that the seal that connects the actual filter to the intake tube was too close to the heat shield, and when the engine would move from the torque, the rubber seal would hit the heat shield and cause the knocking noise. I bought the truck with the air intake, so I'm kinda stuck with it.

Also, make no mistake, these aren't "cold air" intakes. I never know why K&N calls them "cold air intakes"... If anything, the air going into the filter is less isolated from engine heat than stock. They do make is sound more powerful (louder) though.

Can confirm, the heat shield is the biggest PITA of the entire install.

I bought my CAI fully knowing it wouldn't make a difference in performance. I just really like the look and sound of it, plus it looks better than the stock airbox with a pool deck cover in it.

On mine, the thing would start resonating at higher RPMs and make your ears bleed. So I wrapped the tube as tightly as I could with some kevlar exhaust wrap, then covered it in some black tape (totally red neck, I know...). It didn't seem to change the dB of the noise, but the tight wrap changed the resonance frequency to something outside the RPM range which made the sound MUCH less ear bleeding.

Man I love that sound. I'd hit the gas on the on-ramp and my ears would kill me from that sound. It's worse when you have a load and you're trying to keep up on the freeway though.

Dang man I'm impressed. Judging by your projects on the truck and your choice of language on here I had you at late 20's at the youngest. Respect!

I bought the K&N in the first few years I had the truck. Took it off for years and two years ago put it back on cause I had found it again. Immediately took it back off after a week due to the horrible noise (probably the initial reason I took it off). Those resonators are there for a reason. I sold it to some other Tacoma owner who was close.

Also you will see no performance whatsoever but if you like showing off the underside of your hood, to each their own :notsure:

I encountered the same knocking noise also. Drove me nuts untill I finally found it. But Im seriously thinking of taking it off and going back stock. The sound is like an old quadrajet with the breather lid flipped.
