Cool. I love the Peninsula. So many cool places to check out - Ruby Beach, Neah Bay/Cape Flattery, Rialto beach/Hole in the Wall. My wife got a job in Phoenix so I'm going the other way in a month and a half....

    Update 5/16/17:

Dropped truck off on 5/16/17, Service Consultant called back 4 hours later to let me know that they do see a leak and will set up a car rental with enterprise.

Called Enterprise and asked when my rental would be ready, and they let me know that my Nissan Frontier was ready for pick up.......

Will call the Service Department to get further information on my truck.

    A Nissan Frontier?

We expect a detailed comparison if it's a 4.0 powered version.

I have recently driven a couple of Pro-4x versions of the Frontier.

MUCH stronger on the bottom end.

And remembering that they have a Wide Open Throttle restriction that limits you to ~60% throttle until 45mph makes you start wondering...

I test drove a '15 Frontier before I bought my '13 Taco. Frontier left my taco in the dust. Unfortunately it's fugly and the inside is even more dated than a 2nd gen (which I love).

Sadly, my '03 Frontier SVE (once I finally got it reworked) with its supercharger and low end grunt felt quite a bit more ballsy than the Tacoma. I expect the new frontier will be much more so..but it's also guaranteed to be ugly as sin.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :D

I find a Frontier on 285/75/16's to be a very nice looking truck.

And fitting 285's only requires a $10 Harbor Freight heat gun.

I just bought my 2017 OR, and it wasn't part of the recall. However, I checked the rear diff. and I saw what appears to be rust on the drive shaft and the differential housing?! This only has 566 miles, and was in the dry Californian weather for most of its lifetime.

That surface rust will form on every one our trucks and will never cause a problem.

I guess the one thing going for you is Hawaii is like the Tacoma capital of the world so your dealer is likely going to know what's going on with this recall.

On Oahu we only have 1 dealer. Monopoly. They are pretty smug.

    Update 5/17/2017

Dealer says that my rear diff was leaking substantially, and will be weeks or maybe even months before they even know what to do with it. They currently have no parts or instructions on what to do. For now it will just sit outside on their lot...waiting...

For the time being I'm in a rental Nissan Frontier supplied from Enterprise that's due for return 6/16/2017. The guy at Enterprise said that the Toyota and Enterprise had a corporate meeting and is supplying Toyota with rentals. He also said that this was their peak season, and that I was the 10th guy to come get a rental for the recall, and that they are running out of Nissan Frontiers.

The 2016 Nissan Frontier looks super ugly, the interior looks like my 2001 4Runner.....just super outdated bare bones. Worst of all!!! No Reverse Camera or Bluetooth!!! It's 2016!! WTF!

On the bright side...as embarrassing is it to admit, from right off the back I could tell the Frontier drove way better than the Third Gen Tacoma, more power and no sporadic shifting.
