You exert a force up on one side of bars & they will deflect slightly and the opposite side bushings are likely to compress. I'm sure the tensile strength of the bolts is sufficient to hold the body weight if the truck gets hung up & the bushing will help dampen most reasonable impacts from the average user. More aggressive use may require more aggressive protection.

Maybe a comparison of the ZR2's STOCK "glorified step bars" vs the stock Tacoma TRD Pro's is in order....

The Pro's don't call them "sliders". Must be a mall thing.

I liked your post except I wanted to correct one thing. The diesel gets 1 or 2 mpg better than the 3.5L. I wouldn't call that a "bump" in fuel mileage. Not even a swell. More like a slight stutter.

Good point. Lets see, with the PRO all I have to do is install sliders. With the cheby I will have to remove those body mounted things, then install sliders.
Point to PRO for less work involved to install sliders.

They can post what they want on the window sticker, real world 2.8 duramax would be significantly better than any v6 gas engine in the same class truck.

Where I live diesel is also almost 20 cents a litre cheaper than gas.

That's a weak argument. If your the type of person to install sliders on your truck a impact driver and removing a few bolts should be considered very minor.

Also I'm sure you could sell those sliders you took off the zr2 to re coupe some of the cost for new sliders if your so inclined to do so.

Reliability is still my main concern. But, this is a step in the right direction for Chevy. I dig it.

1 or 2 mpg better than the 3.6 gasser, where you getting your data from?

Actual users report anywhere between 24 - 30+ mpg with the 2.8 minimax, with lifetime averages around 24 - 27 mpg & with a tune & DEF deletes that could likely be improved upon.

    Go have a look: http://coloradofans.com/forums/226-diesel/280794-diesel-mpg-diesel-only-please-43.html

    28.3 mpg.jpg

For reference this is what my 2015 CC SB 4x4 3.6LV6 Gasser Canyon got on a fairly long trip 9.5L/100Km over 1,853.1 km That's 24.8 MPGs over 1,151 mi & I'm good with that, I haven't looked what are the V6 taco's getting Approx?

My point is people shit on the competition because it's not a Toyota. I own 2 toyot's, so obviously I put a lot of value in the Toyota name. One cost a lot more than the other (4Runner vs 05 taco) but I still own 2.

I tend to have an open mind from brand to brand, can admit when a company produces a superior product, at least in some ways.(front locker, front bumper, rock rails, tires, rear locker in all drive modes....)

Maybe those are the numbers posted on the window sticker, (being overly cautious after the VW fiasco), actual users are reporting pretty good gains over the gasser. But I thinks it's more up to each potential buyer whether or not the Diesel is worth the hefty premium, for me I don't think it would pay off as I do very little towing & would go with the V6.

I would hope so . . . diesel should easily be up in the 26-27 range. If it ain't for whatever reason, that is a monumental CF. But, even our Q5 is only rated 24/31 and the wife averages just shy of 30 with a 60/40 city/HW split. Tend to get 35-37 on the HW. So, may well be a typical bad marketing job. Granted, you don't buy a truck like this to go get great fuel mileage . . . well mall crawlers probably do but that shouldn't count. I know a guy that has a Raptor and I have NEVER seen a spec of dirt on that truck. I asked him once if I could go get it dirty for him? Thought he was going to punch me . . . next time I saw it, he had a custom painted tailgate!

My opinion. What makes this truck so awesome? I think simply cause this could be best contender Toyota has ever seen period. This puts pressure on Toyota to up their game. Love Yotas always have but why they're lacking in company sales is by screwing around in their tech and advancement department. Not specifically Tacomas.... they have heated steering wheels and all the bells in their High end SUVs but leave all this out on Tundras and Tacos. With recent updates to Tacos its got better but they've lost HUGE market in Tundras as they're far to behind others in regards to the creature comforts and tech people want these days. This ZR2 like it or hate it will dent the Taco market imo and not just by a little. For us yota lovers that's a good thing means it's time for Toyota to really up their game. In my opinion of course...

Would that be from the rearend locking up or the leaf springs fracturing and puncturing the gas tank? ;)

After the rear axle locks up, springs will snap, causing drive shaft to eject and fly through the cab. Then the fire, and screaming.

    all tore up already
Chevy could offer them for free and the tacoma will still have a strong market. Its just that kind of vehicle.

I'm willing to bet you $100 that the Tacoma will still outsell the GM twins combined in two years.
