I have a 2017 trd pro 6mt with a type C toyota key. The door handle does not have the grooves typical of keyless entry. However, the dealer window sticker shows keyless entry as a feature. The toyota website under tacoma comparison shows the trd pro having keyless feature. Am i missing something?

You have keyless entry, you just don't have Smart Key which allows you to enter without taking the fob out of your pocket.

Smart Key is accompanied with a push to start feature which only comes in auto tranny form. I don't believe you can get Smart Key in a manual.

So what's the point of labelling keyless entry as a feature if it doesn't work?

    I have a MT Pro.

Pretty sure keyless entry means you don't have to use a physical key to unlock and get into your truck. AKA you use a button to do so.

Not exactly cutting edge tech but that's marketing for ya! :notsure:

Personally though, I like having a physical key. Makes it more visceral.

    Two systems

Keyless Entry- You don't need to put your key into the door to unlock it. You use the button on your remote.

Smart Key- Works with your keyless entry to sense the key fob when you grab the door handle so you don't have to use the button on the fob.

I believe you only have Keyless because you have a manual.

    Working on it.
It is still keyless you use the fob to unlock the doors. No key. Smart key can stay in your pocket and will unlock by touch in close proximity. Both are still keyless.

Jesus fuck, how is that even considered a feature in 2017?! Other manufacturers labelling keyless entry means not touching the damn key.

It's optional on most everyone else's vehicles too. You'd have automatically gotten it with your Pro if you had an auto

The term 'Keyless Entry' with a remote has been in use since 1984

'Smart key entry system' no need to touch remote has been in use since 1993 on a Corvette.

You've had a long enough time to learn these terms....

    Typical TRD BRO owner.

It's keyless. I bet you can get into your truck without a key.

    Keyless.

    Proof of this?

    Ya VW calls it 'KESSY'

This is because in Europe the term Smart key wouldn't translate the same. And from a marketing stand point those Europeans would probably call it false advertising. North Americans will just eat what they are feed. Haha[/QUOTE]

Wife's car on left KESSY - Right side truck Keyless.

Nowadays car manufacturers are even trade marking their entry systems ®

BMW calls it 'Comfort Access' as per window sticker.

But the reality is you bought the truck and found out after the fact. Buyer beware I guess. That's sucks for you

Regardless of that though you had to have know that the manuals came with traditional key in ignition, second to that I sure hope you know the real reason why.

That may be the official story, but the real reason is Toyota's cheapness (evident in every square inch of this truck).

Just wait until you realize that your hill-start-assist does not actually work the way hill-start-assist normally works. Welcome to Toyota Tacoma.

No.... so you can put it in 4LO / 1st gear and drive it out of intersection when your crank position sensor fails you using only starter motor.
