Anybody know where my pillar is vibrating/whistling? It sounds like the right side windshield seal. It only happens at high speed and I'm not sure what to fix.
    Thx

Always present at high speed or does it only happen in a crosswind?

Crosswinds actually. Kind of random and at about 70mph or so.

It is the door seal. Very common problem but with a easy fix and I think there is finally a TSB for this but honestly easier and faster just to fix yourself. I'll try to find the thread and post link in a bit.

OK here is the thread with the most info:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/whistling-noise-in-crosswinds-at-highway-speed.309795/

The first of many pages is people trying to figure out the problem. Eventually someone figures out it isn't the windshield seal but rather the door seal. Later pages show a variety of easy DIY fixes. Basically the door seal doesn't compress enough with the door closed and in just the right crosswind conditions makes a whistle or kazoo sound - usually right along the A pillar. Fix is the get the seal to compress slightly more. That just means wedging something in between the door and the seal pleats to provide a little more compression when closed. Weatherstripping works, so does any other rubber/plastic gasket like material.

Thanks for this! I have been having the same issue. I'm sure I can do this myself, but since mine is still under warranty I will get it done by the dealer.

    A pillar whistling? Why?
Cause it doesn't know the words.

(Other than that, what @DVexile said - mine does it every now and then - not enough to get me to fix it yet)

I think we've got the same problem. I've only heard it about 3 times but all going 70+.

The TSB is only good for 3 yrs/36,000 miles. My 2015 didn't do it until I had about 45,000 mi. (Have 52,000 now). So, I checked with the dealership this week and they want $245.00 to do 1 door. Probably not gonna happen. I'm in the process of filing a complaint with Toyota which probably won't go any where but who knows.

Just put the weather strip between the door and the first pleat of the door seal like everyone did before the TSB. Takes less than 5 minutes and 10 dollars.

Honestly I actually don't know why people would want to do the TSB unless they feel they will have too much time on this earth and would like to waste some at the dealer. Sure Toyota should fix it but it is hardly worth the time getting them to fix it when it can be done much faster oneself.

Thanks for the info on the warranty limit for the TSB. Sorry they didn't take care of you!

Actually the only reason I posted was to let everyone know the high price the dealer wanted to repair. Mine does not do it enough to be an issue especially at their price. I'm retired and always looking for something to do so I will probably call Toyota...lol

buy the parts and do it yourself...new weatherstrips come with new clips...its a matter of removing the old weatherstrip and just lining
up and pushing in the new weather strip with new clips. but fyi...theres a easier less expensive repair aswell that may work better for you if you dont want to go through the trouble or expense of replacing the weather strips.
