This is great! And, unfortunately, also one of the many reasons why I do not like the idea of hunting with dogs. Glad you were able to rescue her and give her a new home!

I don't like the idea of people that view their hunting dogs solely as tools and treat them as such. I know some people that hunt/run dogs and treat them like family members. That I'm fine with. People that just dump dogs because they're not useful any more really piss me off. I wish I knew who dumped her, but it's probably better I don't. I'd like to drive them out to the middle of nowhere and dump them off with a limp. It's not that hard to get rid of a dog you don't want anymore... there's no reason to just stop in a neighborhood and throw one out of the car.

Growing up, we always had dogs, and I can honestly say that other than a few hiccups (which you'll have with ANY dog), she's turned out to be one of the most wonderful dogs I've ever had. A bit stubborn at times, but she's a hound. She's also a hound that doesn't have a fenced yard or a leash on when she's out at home, and doesn't run off. She's free a free range hound unless we're in public with people around. And the only reason she gets a leash then is because she wants to meet EVERYONE and won't listen to me until everyone pays attention to her.

You make very good points. As you probably know, hunting with dogs is a very hot topic here in Virginia right now. I mainly don't like the way most hunters treat their dogs. I don't have anything against the people that do it, and I actually had to edit my post so it didn't come off that way.

Oh I'm with you. I've never hunted with dogs. I don't hunt much these days, but when I did, we stalked and still hunted. I guess I just don't get it.

I don't like it when people have tiny kennels in their yard full of hunting dogs. I'm no dog expert, but I don't think it would hurt their training to let the guys have some space.
