I ordered this from Amazon Prime. It's currently out of stock, but I wanted to jump on it for the price ($401 + free shipping). Seemed like a decent price for a fire protected safe (30 minutes at 1,400 degrees). Lots of Stack-On safes are not fire protected at all. I would've preferred a manual lock over the digital keypad. We'll see what happens. At worst, I can return it thanks to Prime. Camelcamelcamel shows this at the lowest the safe has been priced. I've been snooping Craigslist for a couple months, but nothing practical or decent popped up within driving distance. It's 300 pounds and can still fit in relatively tight spots. It should manage my current and future stock (3-5 longs, 3-4 pistols and ammo). I'm currently using the Stack-On 8-gun cabinet. While it keeps the kids out, it's nothing for potential burglars. I'll put it on craigslist to offset the safe cost a bit. If it turns out to be a turd, I'll move on to a Cannon fire & water resistant safe.

What I find strange is that when State and local run plates that info does not come up either only when Feds do.....

Here in Ga, I don't reach for anything until they ask for it. They usually have their hand on their piece when they approach the window. I've had guns drawn on me in the past (by LEO and crazy folks), and it's not the best feeling.

In Georgia (according to georgiacarry.org) there is no database of gun owners (HB60). Each individual county keeps its own registration list and it cannot be converted to a digital, easily shared format. It is illegal to publish any database of registered permit holders.

Here in California, when I get pulled over, ALL Windows get rolled down, hands on the steering wheel unt il I am asked for something.
Then I tell them where it is before I reach for it.

THIS. I was asked to pull over at a roadblock the very week I got my .38 special. I was in a county 4 hours away from home. My wallet was in my overnight bag in the trunk. I told the trooper "my wallet is in my bag in the trunk. There is also a pistol in the center pocket of the bag." He walked with me to the trunk and watched as I unzipped the side pocket and produced my wallet. Everything was fine.

Dang.....got mine pretty easy 8 years ago, in NC. had to take 8 hour class, go get fingerprinted and let them do their thing at the Sheriffs Office. 90 days later, to the day, I got a call to come get it. In NC we have to announce it and provide the CCW lic with DL immediately as many others do. NC also has open carry for anyone that wants to, no lic needed.

Its DC the Capital of Chaos and a million appeals and Supreme court cases...

Applying for a Concealed Carry Pistol License
    Update, 6/10/16

Per the Office of the Attorney General:

On June 8, 2016, the D.C. Circuit issued an order staying the preliminary injunction issued by Judge Richard Leon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Grace v. District of Columbia, Civil Action No. 15-2234, pending resolution of an appeal in the case. Until further notice, applicants must satisfy all requirements of the Firearms Control Act of 1975 (D.C. Official Code § 7-2501 et seq.), including the “Good Reason” requirement.

    Update, 5/27/16

Per the Office of the Attorney General:

On May 27, 2016, the D.C. Circuit issued an order temporarily staying the preliminary injunction issued by Judge Richard Leon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Grace v. District of Columbia, Civil Action No. 15-2234, pending further review. Until further notice, applicants must satisfy all requirements of the Firearms Control Act of 1975 (D.C. Official Code § 7-2501 et seq.), including the “Good Reason” requirement.

    Update, 5/19/2016

In light of the preliminary injunction issued by Judge Richard Leon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Grace v. District of Columbia, Civil Action No. 15-2234, the Metropolitan Police Department will not require applicants to comport with the “Good Reason” requirement under D.C. Official Code § 7-2509.11(1)(A) & (B), while the injunction is effective (see “Grace Preliminary Injunction” document, attached below).

Applicants must still meet all other requirements when applying for a license to carry a concealed firearm. Applicants who were previously denied pursuant to the “Good Reason” requirement may submit a new application. The application fee for re-applicants meeting this criteria will be waived. New applicants should use the existing forms until such time as the Department is able to revise forms in accordance with the court’s order. Questions should be directed to the Firearms Registration Section at (202) 727-4275.

On October 23, 2014, the Metropolitan Police Department began accepting applications for a Concealed Carry Pistol License, pursuant to amendments to the Firearms Control Act of 1975 (D.C. Official Code § 7-2501 et seq.) that were recently enacted by the Council of the District of Columbia, and emergency and proposed regulations issued by the Department on October 22, 2014 (a copy of which are below).

Under District law, an applicant for a Concealed Carry Pistol License must include proof of firearms training, including 16 hours of training that covers numerous firearms safety topics, two hours of range training, and training on District of Columbia law on firearms and self-defense. An applicant who has already received firearms training may request a waiver from either the 16-hour training or the 2-hour training, or both. The applicant must provide supporting documentation with their waiver request. Please review the Instructions for Applying for a Concealed Carry License for additional information on the types of documentation required. However, all applicants must take the training on District law on firearms and self-defense; there are no waivers for this requirement.

Please note that applicants may submit their Concealed Carry Pistol License application to MPD without having completed the firearms training requirements. MPD will review the application and may issue a preliminary approval. The applicant will be notified and then have 45 days to complete the firearms training requirements.

Additionally, the Firearms Control Act requires applicants to explain their need for a Concealed Carry Pistol License by demonstrating either a good reason to fear injury to themselves or their property, or any other proper reason. The fact that an applicant lives or works in a high crime area, in and of itself, is not a sufficient reason for the issuance of a Concealed Carry Pistol License. Applicants must demonstrate their basis for requesting a Concealed Carry Permit by submitting a personal statement or supporting documentation or a notarized statement from a third party. Please review the Instructions for Applying for a Concealed Carry License for additional information on these requirements. Further, all fees associated with the processing of applications for a Conceal Carry Pistol License are non-refundable, regardless of final determination.

with a CCW, no permit needed, that works as the permit. No CCW, yes, need a purchase permit, from the Sheriffs office.

Because of the Gub'mint. Getting a CCW permit in DC is the equivalent of doing the American Ninja Warrior course with both hands tied together and one leg missing.

yeah, renewal is easy, I have to go in for it though, not bad. Concord is not a huge city, so pretty easy. Charlotte on the other hand, LOL, no thanks.
