Have to pick up a load of landscaping gravel today. Google says payload on my 2017 2WD Offroad is around 1620 lb; I don't want to overload it and kill my new truck. Anyone have a pic of what a 1620 lb load of gravel might look like. Do you judge by how flat the tires become as you load? Sorry, again, i'm a "bro-ette", learning the capacities of my beloved truck, with which i do "truck stuff".

You won't see much of change in the tires. The rear of the bed will squat down.

If you're not driving for days on end with that load, it should be just fine (ie. to get it home). But I wouldn't make a habit of hauling that much weight around on a daily basis.

A cubic yard of gravel is about 3000 pounds highly doubt you could fit a yard of loose gravel in a Tacoma box so if you filled your box full you probably wouldn't have any issues

Is this a one time/occasional thing, or is this going to be a regular thing?

Depending on the frequency and weight of what you're going to be loading/hauling I would consider some firestone ride-rite airbags. They pretty much go between the frame and the axle and take the brunt of the load.

My very rough calculations put a short bed at over 34 cubic feet, so I might not fill it up...

If you too are concerned about it, you can go to u-haul and rent a trailer.. Also Get more gravel if you need it.

Had over 2k lbs of firepit material in my Taco last summer. Only drove it 4 miles to home. She was squatting. But otherwise the truck didn't even seem to notice that much weight was in the bed.

I hauled 1,600 lbs of concrete mix last month but only about 3 miles from Home Depot to a job site. I was riding on my bumpstops the whole way. If I had to haul that much weight again, I'd take two trips or rent a trailer.

I'm sure I've overloaded every truck I've ever owned. Never had a problem. You'll know when you're driving down the road and it's handling like a boat. Just take your time. Should be fine.
Now that I'm in a "tiny" truck, there's no doubt this thing is going to get overloaded eventually.
