Why you have to nit pick jerry can positions.. I've heard you say the same thing to a few other rigs. I think even mine. Obviously with the build direction of someone mounting ten gallons of whatever on the rear bumper they are not looking to climb vertical walls. I have driven a lot of different trails ranging in difficulty and never came close to smashing my jerry can mount. If you had personal experience of a time in which you hit your jerry can mount on a hill climb, I'd think hey that's good advice from someone who knows. But instead hearing it over and over again you just sound like someone who is guessing.

 

Why put yourself at risk when its not needed... moving it up will stop you from not only destroying it on something but also protect in a rear ending accicent... the higher the better

 

@The Hunter This was a steep climb out of a washed out covert, the large rock at the bottom hit each one of our high clearance bumpers but never touched our fuel/water mounts..

Yea I get that, everyone probably gets that. If you don't, than you probably deserve it smashed. But through internet pictures does not always give the best point of view. I understand if you saw it in person and pointed it out to him. Everytime there's a pic of a jerry mount it's like you see a red ryder BB gun and say "you'll shoot your eye out".

 

I'm not trying to piss in your cheerios. Just hearing it over and over twords a photo posted is kinda irrelevant. Unless it's clearly low..

I mean, without measuring, you'd be departing at like 60 degrees or more to hit the underside Jerry can basket which is most likely never, ever going to happen. Or you drop of a wall that's 24" or more.

Yes, the cans and tire are a touch low which we knew once we installed. At this point it was 6pm, Joe had a 3 hour ride home and I was already there for 12 hours.

I drew it in SolidWorks, but like Joe said sometimes you can't see everything in the computer.

The cans and tire will be moved up at least 3" on version 2. This was more of a proof test build. Show me someone who builds something this complex on the first shot perfectly and I'll eat my words.
