toyo tuning

I am new to the import side of trucks, so maybe some of you all can fill me in. I have had several domestic trucks, and none of them come too close to the quality I have w/ my 05 taco. However one thing I am dissapointd in is there isn't much aftermarket tuning available( like plug and play). If I understand this correctly, Toyo doesn't release their codes, the big 3 do release their codes to "unlock" the ECM. Additionally, it sems like the big 3 "tune down" their engines for longivitiy and fuel economy reasons. Toyota pretty much releases engines as they are. already tuned for optimal output and function, such as: optimal spark and fuel timing, air induction. (I'm sure I am wrong on some of this) but, with this said, will any manufacturer-even TRD ever come up with a plug and play programmer? I know some of the answers are going to be re-program the PCM, etc. But this has a big learning curve and you must know what your doing to optimize that.

welcome to tw, grant!!! good to have you join the sight!!! check out urdusa.com, and take a look at their maf calibrator.........thats as close as you will get to "the plug and play aspect", but its better than a chip, and you'll see definite results with it, and you can couple their intake/exhaust for even better performance!! hope this helps!

 

yeah I have been looking at that. Unfortunatley the bank still "owns" my truck. So money is a little tight for me to buy an AFE AF, exhaust, and MAF calibrator. However, I expect to buy something soon.

 

all i can say is save up for everything. you can get the stuff that will help with mileage first though if you wanted to go tat way. afe filter will be good for mileage(skip a complete intake.....not worth it in my opinion), then go from there. and if you arent running synthetic, it'll help a little too.

 

running synthetic now. Mileage is pretty good 18-20MPG. I'll be getting the AFE soon.
