Can you show me where the 23 chemicals are that are supposed to be in KF Blue? Statements like that usually come from the lump crowd, and normally egg heads. But no one has ever been able to prove it that I can find. And if your using briquettes your not any different than KF, still has binder in it and not true 100% natural. All depends on how you define natural.

KF has not had sodium nitrate in it for more than 12 years now. Not that there was anything wrong with it when they did. Here is a more accurate description of the ingredients http://virtualweberbullet.com/charcoal.html

I tried the Cowboy brand lump when Trader Joes went in here for awhile. Lump all natural. Not a fan didn't take long for me to go back to KF. There seems to be a lot of hype about the all natural thing. Of course if you grill or smoke your at a much greater risk of developing cancer according to some studies no matter what you use for fuel.

Harry Soo of Slap Yo Daddy BBQ has made a living going around the country holding seminars on the WSM and using KF Blue charcoal. And has won 28 Grand Championships using the same. Apparently the judges can't tell the difference between KF and the other brands when it comes to the finished product. I think it safe to say that he knows what he is doing. https://www.amazon.com/review/R2BJ7GXCST6H7S

Down to 3 lbs. of sausage now, can't recall the last time I cooked ground beef burgers. With a large zucc split and some olive oil on it tonight.

My own personal test series in my WSM resulted in: KF blue has an ammonia scent when it's burning, Stubbs doesn't. End of test. Ymmv.

Damn!! Really wish there weren't any ticks on the face of the earth. Have had Lyme for years and all my dogs have had it by the age of 1. Even using all the chemicals and cautions. Did I mention that I hate ticks?! This takes the little bastards to a whole 'nother level of hate.

I did edit myself to show the updated list.Pulled the edited list from kingsford themselves , that's what there listing themselves. Last time I looked at kingsford blue was prob 20 years ago looks like they changed somewhere in 2015 from what I saw online.I don't need or want sodium nitrate or borax anywhere near my food. Ive tried lump charcoal, burns to hot and to fast for me.Im a Weber man no eggs for me.

I got my Border Collie from a rescue shelter when he was about 1 year old. They gave him a vet check and sent me home with him. About 2 weeks later I get a call from the shelter saying he had Lyme disease and I could return him. By that time we were best buds and no way was I giving him up. A bunch of back and forth and they agreed to cover his meds for Lyme disease. I had to give him a couple pills a day for about a month. They said he would be fine but might end up with bad arthritis and joint problems when he ages. It's been a couple years and he's very active so I hope he'll be ok for the long haul.20141017_132604(1).jpg

I spent a couple of years in the Puget Sound area back in the early 80's on the Olympic side. No poisonous snakes either. It was one of the best places I ever lived. I hunt grouse on the North Shore of Lake Superior on the Canadian Border mainly because there are very few ticks. But can go out in my yard down here and get covered in them if I'm not careful.

A trainer on the Toll N Train group posted a picture of a dog that was eating grass and got more than he bargained for. Not going to post the picture in case someone just ate. The little dirty bastages.

Good on you for the rescue! And I hope he is OK too. And good chance of it if he isn't showing symptoms now. Although they are right it always worst with dogs, and people, when you get older. Used to be could get a lot of false positives with Lyme tests but now if they are positive, then the dog or you really is positive. In heavy tick country don't think there is a way to prevent it if you spend time outside.

My oldest boy had to put down a month ago at the age of 14. He did pretty good but toward the end could tell it was hard for him to get up and down, let alone the steps. Most of his life it didn't flare up. And when it did always seemed to be during hunting season I think the running aggravated it. He didn't care just wanted to hunt. He is the Toller in my avatar back when he was a pup sitting in a 12 lb. keg of gunpowder.

My young guy is 2.5 and tested positive at 8 months, right before his first hunting season. Hasn't shown any symptoms yet and hope he never does. Think he is going to be the best hunter I have ever been owned by. Haven't had a problem with ticks phez hunting in SD. Badgers, skunks and snakes are another story.

Got a call last week out of the blue and long story but am giving a 1.5 year old Toller a forever home in 2 weeks. They wanted him to go to a good hunting home. He is in Texas but have arrangements to pick him up only 4.5 hour drive from here. Not a day goes by since I said yes that I don't wonder how the hell can I keep him from getting Lyme too.

Nice dogs, sorry for your loss. One of the hardest things Ive ever had to do was put my German Shepard down. Im in NY and the last 10 years or so ticks have gotten really bad.

In the Southern Tier of NY back in the 70's didn't even know what a tick was. Did recruiting duty back there in the mid 80's and had the first tick on me after gutting and dragging a deer out of the woods. But still didn't see many outside of that. Took my youngest son back 12 years ago for hunting season and he shot his first deer not far from where I shot my first deer. Still not a lot of talk about ticks. Now it is a major topic of conversation with my friends and family back there.

The pup in my avatar is from Cayuga Kennels. Cayuga creek flows out of Cayuga Lake and runs behind the HS I graduated from. I gave the registered name Cayuga Sheshequin Sniper to the pup to continue and honor the Iroquois.

Over the years I have done my part to try and not give the deer ticks a host to ride on in NY.

Did someone say fatties? Sold these three to customers while cooking a brisket for the family.

Brisket has been a long journey for me, but I love where I'm at with them. Most folks that eat it do, too ;). In 2015, I cooked somewhere in the range of 125-150 of them....all in my little drums.

Thanks! The fatties were my go-to: breakfast sausage, stuffed with Pitfaced BBQ Rub-a-Dub, feta and mozerella cheeses, a wee bit of diced onion, chopped spinach leaves, and parsley (the last two mostly for color).
