I read the article. He was lucky that this occurred in a remote area in east county otherwise people could have been hurt. And I can't believe he didn't shift into neutral or turn the thing off. He is one lucky bastard.

RIP to my 08 Prerunner DC
People made it for 40 or 50 years with no power steering and no power breaks. It makes no sense why he would be scared to turn it off. God forbid some fatty has to put some muscle into driving to save his life.

Sounds like somebody's trying to get paid. Kind of convenient that it happened while he was passing someone and in a spot that was nice and clear of other traffic. What Prius driver hasn't read a single news story telling you what to do when this happens?? My guess is he called 911 so that there are "witnesses" to his "problem" when he tries to sue Toyota in the near future for mental anguish.

Custom body work...boat trailer came of hitch, hit tailgate and Rammed stick thru lower valance while towing boat....hmmm, Maybe I should get a new boat?!?
Reminds me of the South Park episode where all "pichku" (sp?) critters were sold to little kids to allow for Japanese brainwash dominance of the world...all the while the Japanese kept distracting us saying we have "large American penises" (true). It's all a plot for Japanese overtaking the world...China was the last frontier. I here it's because they're still pissed about WWII?!?

I half suspect these drivers are dim witted beyond belief.

But, I'll tell you what, if there is one more death from a stuck accelerator (dumbass or not), the motherload of all dumps is going to hit the fan.

I just find it weird that all of a sudden these problems are coming out to the mainstream. If it's been a problem, how come these people are only coming out now that all this hoopla the gov't is making of Toyota. They are all craving attention and everyone is trying to jump on the bandwagon.

See this is why in driver's ed they need to teach people what to do in situations like this. And they should teach them the BASICS of a vehicle!

Probably got stuck on their Birkenstocks......

Here is an exerpt from the Foxnews story:
"They also got it going on a steep upgrade," said Officer Jesse Udovich. "Between those three things, they got it to slow down."
After the car decelerated to about 50 mph, Sikes turned off the engine and coasted to a halt.
The officer then maneuvered his car in front of the Prius as a precautionary block, Udovich said.

So the douche could have turned it off. Instead he chose to endanger all the other folks including the LEO in the fracas..... Nice..... Its a friggin wonder these folks can get dressed in the morning without killing themselves....

Looks like from the san diego news that Toyota is looking at the car now. Even if they find something, they ain't going to say anything.

Yeah, I also agree we need to add "put the f-ing car in neutral" on the driving test. Then start testing the old farts on the road.
