Chad, mine is secured in the driver's side floor with velcro on the radio body to the carpet. Just below the center console plastic trim line. Perfect and doesn't put much strain on the connectors on the back of the radio.
Mic holder thing is mounted to side of the radio body and it's cord isn't in my way. Don't even notice it's there now.

I really want to mount mine in the cubby underneath the HVAC controls

 

I would too, if I didn't use that space.

 

And I didn't want to take apart/cut the console to run cabling.

 

Yeah, I just put my sunglasses case there currently

Yeah, that wont be fun....but once its done I will be happy

 

I keep my sunglasses in the rear 2 cup holders on the center console. That's also where I have a 12V outlet.
