Of course it happens to some people much sooner, 10k, 15k, 30k, but I've seen a lot of these right at the edge of warranty and just beyond. I haven't seen anyone hit 90K or beyond without the chirp, I'm sure there are some, but it would seem like they are the minority or have already had work done by the previous owner.

This issue factored into 50% of my decision to get the 4 w/ 5spd. I personally know 2 other people who have this issue with their 6 speeds and all started just over 50-60k in mileage. This is unfortunately the mileage people tend to trade vehicles in after leases or purchase, so it has potential to creep on used buyers as well. I hope all can get some resolution from Toyota soon.

Your transmission has the steel bolt-on pilot shaft. Your clutch disk will likely self destruct long before that pilot shaft wears, and when you do a clutch, hopefully well beyond 150K miles, just add $75 and bolt in a new pilot shaft. I wish I could swap transmissions, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

none, dont want to void the warranty
Why dont you have the 7yr 100,000mile warranty? You would be fine if that was the case. My '09 already at 21K miles with the 6 speed and runs great. "Knocks on wood"

Just roll up the windows and put the ac on. I had the same problem at 45,000 miles and just don't give a sh!t about it. I think the people who are outside of the truck look at me funny but so what. At least I ain't riding a bike or walking. Trust me not worth getting worked up over. I bought a Tacoma to f it up and that is peanuts to the other problems (mostly body damage) I have done! lol:D

Alright, so is it just a noise that is made? With no damage done? I had a 96' 4 runnner that had a noise when the clutch was released... was always curious what it was but never had it checked... is this the same thing?

I flipped out when I saw that video, Im a photojournalist but a journalist non the less and I couldn't believe how stupid CNN was to air that video. I guess they don't have anyone reviewing their work.

why dont we get a thread going, if this is sufficient , then fine, but get a number posted on who to call and organize the correct statement to give so that we can maybe push them along, i think the best time to strike is when the iron is hot, and toyota does not want bad publicity, i mean, if we can find a decent amount of poeple, alert the media with valid issues, toyota will have to listen, they DO NOT want any more bad press. its a do or die thing, ya know, thats my opinion

Check this out... this is exactly what I wanted to do the first time around. I found this over with the FJ guys, awesome find.

Here's the company link, and some of their pictures...
    http://www.pdmtsk.com/home.html

I emailed them and offered to send them my older scored '05 RA60F bell housing to make me a kit. The difficulty may be finding a substitute release bearing, or difficulty trying to modify one.

For those who have had this problem, do you do any off-roading? Anyone have the problem without any off-roading?

    Just curious.
