Mobil 1 because the bottle color matches my truck although I have noticed oil consumption over the past few oil changes.

@Star-Lord Looking at your charts and such, looks like Valvoline SynPower is pretty good. Walmart sells a 5 quart jug for $22.50-$25 depending on weight.

You guys who notice oil consumption - what weight are you using?

I run 5W-30, which is what is recommended for my 2008. But over the years Toyota has recommended anywhere from 10W-30 (hot environment I believe) to 0W-20. Since the engine was designed some years ago now I've always felt that 0W-20 was too thin and done solely to increase fuel economy at the expense of longevity.

Now I don't know if that's actually true, I admit that. But I've run both 10W-30 and 5W-30 standard Mobil1 synthetic and haven't seen much loss (maybe 1/4 quart) of oil at 5K intervals.

The sweat shop tends to pop up everywhere so it's easy to find when you're in out of the way places. Plus, they ship just about anywhere. Prices are cheap, and someone needs to feed all those nice Chinese families they employ for $0.08 a day.

It's also the only store within a 5 mile range of my house so I tend to shop there more than I'd like simply due to the fact that everywhere else is a 20 minute round trip.

I've only used the 5w-30 in mine every time but it might be worth trying the 10w-30 and seeing if anything changes

Saw a Tacoma in Loveland yesterday like this that stopped at a light and it all came avalanching down over his windshield and hood. I was past him the other way by the time it stopped, but I think he might have had half a windshield to see out of when it was done. Good thing he didn't stop in the intersection (turn lane).

Another Mobil 1 Extended user here. I do have Amsoil in the diffs and TC though.

Never had a problem with it burning that I've noticed. I run 5-30, which is what the manual calls for unless in cold temps, but I know some people run 5-20 or 0-20, and I'm pretty sure later year second gens manuals changed to the 5-20 instead of 30 as the default, but don't quote me on that.

    @thefatkid

Is it worth it to try to rebuild my power steering pump, or should I just give in and get a new one? It sounds horrible after this last trip.

Went with Castrol Edge 10-30. Was the same price as the conventional believe it or not.
Also picked up a couple 3" spot mirrors, a Motor Trend cassette adapter for my mp3, gotta have those spots, really missing them, Phone charger, cause mine lasts about 7 hours now, and a new set of front brake pads. I got shit to do this weekend.
The club cancelled the trail cleanup, for obvious reasons.

    1st gen problems!

Oh wait, mine has had a somewhat regular noticeable whine since new described as "how it's supposed to sound" by a Toyota spokesperson.

fwiw, I picked up a reman from Napa a couple years back and it has been good so far.
However, I went through two of them, the first one howled and squealed right out of the box, the second is still in there.

Might just do that for the hell of it. Anything in particular to look for, or should it be pretty obvious? It's now making a pretty loud whining/howling sound all the time. Sounds especially bad the higher the RPM. Steering still seems to be working though. :notsure:

270k miles on the OEM pump. I'm not complaining.

Exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Don't want to do the same shit I did with steering racks.

I've always used Mobil 1 5-30 from the first oil change. Oil and filter changed every 3000 miles. After 100k I started using Mobil 1 5-30 High Mileage. Truck now has 187k on it and I'd say the past few oil changes I've noticed 5 1/2ish qts. go in but only 5 come out.

Is there any one local in Denver who has installed the new OME EL095 or EL096 leaf packs? If so what is your overall height from center hub to fender?
