Finally got around to taking the gheenoe off of the trailer to check out the leak. @TacoTRD78

Research is showing that I need to repair it inside as well which is going to be tough since the livewell is on the other side but I can't remove it. Considering just repairing the outside and taking it to Custom Gheenoe at a later date.

Inside of the hull, this is where water runs underneath the seat and livewell

Hell yea! Well I just cut around the hole and sanded the edge down at a taper. Not sure the right word for it.

    IMG_4945.jpg
There are two other patches that someone else did before, not great jobs so considering taking it into have the whole bottom redone

Ok thats going to be a tricky repair. The hole is under the live well right? Im thinking expansion foam before fiberglass just not sure about chemical reaction to the foam from the epoxy resin. If there is no reaction. Step1 would be fill in void with foam. 2 sand flush with bottom of gheenoe. 3 cover area of hole with larger fiberglass cloth than poor epoxy over fiber glass cloth cover with seran wrap this aids it smooth finish and dosnt effect the curring process. I would repeat the last step acouple of times to build up the fiberglass. Than sand smooth and you should be good

Do I sand in-between layers? Or just at the end. Also how long should I wait between layers
So if I fill it in with foam it will block the little pathway under the livewell for water to flow from the bow to the stern if any gets in. Which i don't see being a big deal, where can i get the expansion foam? Is it the polyurethane expansion foam?

Yes sand inbetween coats not a heavy sand like a 220 if you use seran wrap the sanding will be minium. I was thinking along the lines of expansion foam in a aerosal container i dont have any experience with that stuff maybe @Blackout14 could chime in. As far as a channel to allow water to flow from bow to stern i would use some sort of poly tubbing like a straw of some sort. wait time inbetween coats depends on how much hardner you used with the resin. Too much hardner it cures to fast and isnt easy to use not enough equals a sticky mess that seems it will never cure. I recommed applying in the shade and curing in sunlight.

6 layers on, didn't sand in between though but did wait until it was tacky. Started with a small patch and worked up a couple inches each one. Didn't get the foam but we'll see how this does for now. Thanks for the help fellas! Just gotta sand and paint sometime during the week

I'm thinking 80 grit will be fine if you're just using latex paint.
