    Hi all-

Finally found someone to trade hoods with (I hate the scoop).

I had a quick look under the hood....sure appears simple (four bolts and a washer-fluid hose). But thought I'd ask the hive-mind if anyone's done it before and has any tips/tricks. Looks like it might be a bit awkward to handle once that last bolt comes off, especially if there's any wind (which there usually is in my area).

Checked YouTube and didn't see anything there..

Not much to it...just have the person you are trading with help hold the hood...then do the swap.:notsure:

Sweet. Kinda what I was thinking. Just hoping the hood isn't heavier than it looks! :)

I recommend putting a rag or something similar over the pointed edges closest to the windshield. I failed to do this and when my dad helped me install my hood, we ended up cracking the windshield (user error obviously). No biggie because it already had a major rock chip in it that was spreading but for someone with a nice windshield its something to consider.

I would use a pencil or something to outline where the brackets are on the hood on both trucks so you have a guide where to put them back so you can get the alignment pretty close on the first try where gaps and how it hits latch are all same as before..........

All good tips. Don't try and do this without a helper.

Handle the hood very carefully and don't flex it. The sheet metal is glued to the support bracing and can detach if you ham-fist the hood.

When you reattach the hood(s), just snug the bolts up, then close the hood gently, this allows the latch to align itself correctly. If all looks good open her up, lift gently as not to disturb the alignment, then torque them down to spec.

    Not Enough.
Pro-tip: Don't bolt it on, assume it's lined up, and just shut the hood like normal. Lower it slowly, watching both sides to make sure it doesn't hit the fenders. I know it sounds like elementary school level stuff, but I've watched a lot of people do it.

Source: My dad is an auto painter. My grandfather owned his own paint/body shop. I just installed a scooped hood on my truck about a month ago. I have experience on the right way and the really wrong way. Lol.

There is one spot to unplug the washer hose on the passenger side before it splits. No need to disconnect the system at the nozzles which makes it easier.

I swapped out my sport hood a few months after getting it. I bought 2 1" long allen screws, remove one bolt in each side and install allen screw. Leave most of it hanging out. This will prevent the hood from sliding back into the windshield when you take the other bolt out. Also covered the fenders and the sawhorses that were already waiting with blankets.

Also have someone watch the back of the hood as you slowly lower it, so that they can yell stop before it hits the cowl.

When removing, as mentioned, lay a few towels on the cowl. Remove the upper bolts 1st. If you're on the drivers side, put your right hand on top of the hood at the back edge. Put your right shoulder under the middle of the hood. Use your left hand on the bolts.
