Title says it all. I have an 00' taco with the 3.4l. I just replaced the valve cover gasket, along with some grommet/washers, spark plug wires, spark plugs, pvc valve, all that good stuff. I ordered the kit off of eBay from a Toyota dealer. Paid $200 all in all. I also replaced the injectors branded Denso. Everything was genuine parts. My question is..... The darned check engine light came back telling me I have a bad valve cover gasket....... what gives?

Not sure if there is a DTC for valve cover gasket. Do you know the actual code number by chance?

Mmmm, we're really gonna need that code. Also, the info on the taco. Which engine, tranny, mileage, the maintenance that's been done, etc. The more the specific the info, obviously as possible, the more specific of answer or help you'll likely get. Yeah welcome to the most helpful Tacoma forum online.

Edit: oops just noticed you had the engine and year in title of thread.

I think Autozone gave you incorrect info. I don't think your going to find a code for such. How is the computer going to know that? It might see low vac. pressure but no way to make that a valve cover gasket. Get the code.

The real question here is why did you change your injectors?

Codes were P0301 and P0440. And their computer suggested the part, I was already gonna replace it anyways because it would drip oil every now and then.

Google is your friend here. Nothing to do with valve covers. 301 is misfire on cyl 1 and 440 is the evap system.

Try swapping first coil pack with another and see if the MIL follows the coil pack or stays with that first cylinder.
Can't remember if on the P0440 a new gas cap was a common fix or not.

I ound the print out, and it says the most common fix seen by ASE certified technicians is to have the valves adjusted to OEM settings. I literally just saw that right now.

I forgot to note, the misfires have been dealt with. I included it just incase theres a pattern with these two specific codes.

Reads codes as well as live data. I use the free version of OBDCarDoctor app. The pro version allows you to actually record the data as well.
