Went to the dealer today for 20k maintenance, and found out the rear differential is leaking fluids. Apparently there is an open recall for this, and Toyota doesn't know how to fix this yet. The rep. Put me on a rental car, he said it can be weeks :(

I know this has been talked about but what do you mean Toyota hasn't come up with a fix yet. That sounds like bullshit from the dealership. The official notice I read was that if not leak was present, they would retorque the differential bolts. If there was a leak they would re seal the differential, if there was damage, they would replace the 3rd member

Because misinformation, miscommunications and inconsistencies. Based on feedback from some dealers: Procedures have been developed but parts have not arrived.

    Do you see any leakage?
Mine is bone dry on the outside, so no rush bringing it in.

nope, mine is bone dry as well, I'm in the same boat as you, no rush taking it in, I'll wait until my 20,000 maintenance. The report I read said Toyota is expecting less than 1% of vehicle to be affected.

Sounds like the OPs truck was leaking and they need to clarify with a Toyota Rep on how to proceed.

Yeah, also the recall was unknown to OP.
I would be shocked if I brought my vehicle in for a routine check and ended up leaving with a loaner for an indeterminate amount of time.

OP- Keep us all posted about how they handle this. It'll be interesting to see how it's dealt with. You're in good hands with Toyota.

Yeah, sorry I haven't been to the forum for a while and wasn't aware of the recall. Sorry if this has already been discussed on another thread. I was just not happy about the whole thing, and have to drive the corolla for weeks

That sucks! Some members requested trucks. Tacoma, Tundra and even Frontiers from what I have read. Good luck and let us know. Not reading TW is not necessarily a bad thing...:crapstorm:
