Never tried RMO but probably would. There's a festival somewhere here in OK where they do that. @Prairie Hawk would probably know.

 

Why?

 

The salmon run is the time when salmon, which have migrated from the ocean, swim to the upper reaches of rivers where they spawn on gravel beds. After spawning, all Pacific salmon and most Atlantic salmon die, and the salmon life cycle starts over again.

I like to hang out in gravel beds these days.

 

Stillwater, OK had the Testicle Festival at Tumbleweeds every year around this time. Nothing like sticking as many balls in your mouth as possible while in college.

 

It's the only time of year they serve the RMO.

 

There Not bad. Just a different texture. We just cook some up for snacks as we are branding. The ladies pour some olive oil and garlic salt on the flat top of the branding pot and while the Buckaroos are dragging calves to the fire the ladies pass them out to the ground crew. Just a snack. Some people go all out and take them home and cook em fancy.

 

RMO?? I'm a city slicker, please explain.

On the other hand I've always been up for trying something at least once

Oh shit, I'll pass no matter how tender those things would be. Burst of flavour when biting in to them? Don't answer, don't want to know.

Really. There are whole competitions for cooking RMOs. You can bread them, deep fry, put em in pasta sauce, really just about any way you could think of.

I like thrm around the branding trap but am not one to typically take them home.
