    Thanks for clicking.

I have a new SR5 with painted flares (silver sky) and looking at either trading for OR flares, dipping or wrapping my current ones.

If dipped would go with the plasti dip. If wrapped, would look for something matte textured if possible, or just matte black with a clear bra, which I hear looks just like unpainted plastic (?).

Anyways, since most of these little jobs end up being twice the pain we think it's going to be, I wanted to ask if anyone could make a recommendation on the above, but more importantly instructions on how to remove the flares before I dive in. Seems simple enough, remove the screws near the bottom and manipulate the tabs along the top (assuming there are push tabs?). Any tips, tricks, etc.? I would prefer not to ruin my flares when removing them. Looks like it's a pain on older models so I'm not sure if it applies for gen 3.

I searched the forums for this info and didn't find much of anything aside from people trading.

    Thanks!
    Mike

not to be a dick and thank u for the link but i very rarely start threads for a question that i can't find the answer by searching and even tho i didn't start this one i can see why he did since i too was searching for "fender flare removal" or anything along those lines at all.
the title "front bumper install" doesn't even sound close, and it didn't pop up for me either while searching.

also those are bushwackers not Factory flares.

usually yeah ur right, ppl are retarded and lazy and think that all the time but not in this case

edit: it's the ipa's talking not me, sorry

If you search fender flare Removal and check the box "this forum only" over 5 pages of results come up. If you review the results on the first page not even halfway down that thread came up with discussion on the instructions.

I just removed mine for a swap not to long ago. It was pretty straight forward with a few exceptions.

If you can find someone to swap with do it!

You WILL break a few of the clips that are inserted in the metal part of the truck. I broke 5 total and mine is brand new. Don't worry, you can get a 10 pack of replacements at the parts store (or message me and I will send you some of my extras for free).

The rears come right off. Just take your time and be careful.

The fronts are pretty much the same but at the lower front part of the flare take a little extra time manipulating the tabs out of the plastic bumper. They break easy but can also be fixed easy.

Adhesive tape: The person I swapped with had all his stay on the truck and was able to reuse it. I was not so lucky. Some of mine stuck to the truck and some to the flare. No worries, 3M makes it in 1/4" wide rolls for about $20.

It is one of those projects that is actually pretty easy. Dive in, take your time, and use your head and it will be fine.

Perhaps it's because I'm new, but I searched forums with no results (as stated in my original post). Funny thing though, I found the post you provided in my search but overlooked the attachment from that comment due to a misleading title.

Anyways, thank you for the information. I was very surprised to see so little info regarding stock flares (which I saw in several places would be different than aftermarket flare removal). Assuming there are tabs involved, I wanted to ask for pointers since these things are so easy to break and I run the potential of screwing myself out of 600+ overpriced dollars for a set of replacements.

I'm still interested in some updates from those who dipped their flares and also see if anyone had used 3M Vinyl Wrap with a clear bra cover. I've heard the wrap works really well and is a more permanent application to the dip.

Thanks for the pointers. Great info to have going in. Added confidence will definitely save time!

That's weird, the dude with over 10,000 posts knows more about how to navigate this forum than the guy with 12.

What you want to make sure you do if you get the bushwackers is to fill in the holes on the fenders with some silicone or something else so water or other stuff cannot get behind new flares and cause rust.

Guys, I swapped my paints sport flares for black OR ones and reattached them with no problems. However, I recently noticed that the tape I used around the top of each flare has started to peel away from the bodywork just a little bit in some areas. Is this a problem? I don’t really want to have to take them off and redo them again. I was wondering if I should run a tiny bead of black silicon along the gap between the flare and the metal to stop water getting down there?

No no silicon. Use 3m double sided tape and make sure that you clean the paint with rubbing alcohol before putting back on

That’s what I did use, but it’s already peeling away in places.
