    Hello!

    -Background :
I was in Austin , TX in 2011 and saw a nicely built FJ Cruiser for the first time. As soon as I saw it.. I was hooked . I purchased my first FJ the following weekend , built it mildly, and brought it to my first FJ Summit event in Ouray , CO. Fast forward three FJ's (one had Total Chaos +2" LT , one had All Pro +2" LT , a few Land cruisers (another forum, another time) , and here I am. For those interested , those rigs have been sold. It came clear to me that I wasn't willing to keep up with the constant maintenance of suspension components Long Travel Kit requires , especially for daily driving and persistent off road trips . I'm a firm believer in driving to a destination , not towing a rig to a destination.

I had always liked the Tacoma , but told myself for the price , I could have a full size truck. After researching the legendary re-sale value and capability , the truck began to make more since. After purchasing a home , and deciding heavy wheeling was no longer a hobby I wanted to pursue (for now) , I was sold on a Tacoma.

I came a cross a 2016 Quicksand TRD Off-Road Tacoma that a mutual friend was selling for financial reasons. It checked a few boxes of mine - 2016 Quicksand under 27k miles, TRD Off road package , and painted snug top shell .

The previous Toyotas I owned (besides my first FJ Cruiser) were all "bought" not "built" , and admittedly I didn't appreciate the rigs as I should have. On the other hand , I wanted to get into a rig that had amazing baseline features , with the ability to build as I desired . This was the itch I couldn't quite scratch on owning other built rigs . Plus , You never REALLY know who turned those wrenches and with what sort of mechanical ability.

Thus , my first build thread !

    as of 5.9.2017:

2016 Quicksand Tacoma Dbl Cab TRD off road ~27k miles

    shift sense pro

    LIFT :
3" PRO COMP LIFT -- I bought it like this . . Coming from Fox , Toytec Boss , and Radflo lifts.. I dont see how people can ride around with these spacer lifts. I am actively researching the best lift for my needs and will report back on purchase. Taking my time researching this one. **UPDATE 7.17.17** SPC UCAs installed

    TIRES:
    TOYO 305 70 16

    Immediate plans :

LIFT : As stated , researching the best lift for my needs .

WHEELS : SCS STEALTH 6 matte dark bronze ordered 5.7.17

SLIDERS : Researching at this time **UPDATE** Shrockworks sliders installed .

Rear Bumper : Researching at this time , considering CBI .

Front Bumper : I'm not a huge fan of current 3rd gen front bumpers right now.. Second Gen front ends offer much better looking bumpers!

    IG : drakes_FJ
To see my other rigs .

Good looking truck. Sometimes I wish I had gone with this color instead. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Love the quicksand color. You'll have fun building this one.

Will likely build it similar to my FJ :

Radflo Coillovers up front with UCAs with somesort of HD type rear lift for load . Sliders , maybe a roof rack then call it a day .

    Im keeping it simple.

Welcome. I say that to myself with every vehicle I buy but I can't seem contain myself.

I also came from an FJ, I had a '13 Trails Team with Fox suspension and some other goodies and traded it for the same reason of owning my first own, having the bed space is nice. I would consider owning another FJ, if Toyota were to ever release them again.

Did some camping to spectate Endurance Racing out in the hill country of Central Texas . First time camping out of the back of a truck. I'm 6'0" .. dropped the tailgate, laid a blanket over the back for privacy and slept amazingly well . I have a good baseline for how I think i'm going to camp next time.
