Perfect view of it in this video at the 0:44 mark. Looks like Ryan went in for a illegal hit, his skates are both off the ice at impact in the replay at around 0:50, and naturally caught his man up high. Definitely an illegal hit by the letter of the law but Ryan didn't lead in with his elbow from the replay. Ryan was way to eager to make an impact hit and jumped causing his elbow and forearm to crush Ruhwedel's head. Ryan should of received a minor for charging, you cannot have your skates leave the ice to make a bigger hit, and Cole should of received a roughing call on the play. Cole could of taken a one man fight penalty and instigator as well but the NHL never ever calls that.

Long and short, the rules don't apply in the playoffs so who cares because what should be called never is until the game gets out of hand.

 

I don't see the problem ... just another avenue for the NHL and it's owners to recoup some dough-re-mi. With all the blown calls and mismanaged games, you have to expect a few emotions and a little truth to reach the surface.

Because if you call a black person the n word or a woman in a dress a slut than the comment is actually more offensive than if you throw it out randomly against someone. If your logic is true and that referee is a homosexual than it was even worse according to social norms for Getzlaf to make that comment.
