What I'm telling you is that I realize now that's it's working great...

And I'm also telling you that if my A/C does crap out, it will be in a fashion similar to what happened with my dad's Pathfinder 14 years ago.

Gotcha. I wasn't sure if you were misunderstanding what I was saying

A friend of mine converted his AC to propane. It was the coldest air I've ever felt coming out of an AC duct. Fantastic when it's 125° outside.

I once met a guy who's a mechanic by trade, back in like 2015. He was driving a 1992 Dodge Dakota. When R-12 became harder to find and the system developed a particularly bad leak, he converted the system to propane instead of R134a.

I suspect that is what the technician told the OP, or he dumbed it down to "full" while talking to a customer. If the system is operating properly what difference does it make how precise the charge mass is?

    ------------------------------
While on the subject R134a is not Freon. Freon is a trademarked name, originally of Dupont but now the Chemours Company; it is a chlorofluorocarbon. R12 was one of the refrigerants in the Freon family.

    R-134 is a halocarbon--Dupont calls it SUVA.

I hate when people do that, and that is why I go out of my way to avoid the dealer now. If I lived in a state that didn't require annual safety inspections and emissions testing, I would not need to bring my truck to a mechanic or shop for anything other than tires. The only reason I don't do tires myself is because I don't have a life or one of those machines for putting a tire on a rim. I do, however, know how to properly mount and balance a tire because I took auto shop in high school and I spent a lot of time around my uncle's hubcap and wheel store...

I've finally convinced my dad to let me change my own oil, and I'm more than likely going to become an HVAC tech, so if the A/C in my Tacoma takes a shit I'll just charge it myself.

One of the things I love about Tacomas is that you don't need specialized training to work on one!

The center dash vents will usually net slightly lower temps than the outboards

    Got my Tacoma detailed today!

    IMG_6130.jpg IMG_6131.jpg IMG_6132.jpg

    Specifically the interior...

    IMG_6128.jpg IMG_6133.jpg

    And the rims...

    IMG_6146.jpg IMG_6147.jpg IMG_6148.jpg IMG_6149.jpg

My friend does the detailing work for me while I'm at work. The reason I only had the interior and rims done is because I just had it fully detailed less than a month ago.

I do not understand your comment?

All they have done for the last 6 months is prove for once and all, and beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they devoid of logic and are incapable of rational thought--and also have dropped their mask of "tolerance" and "inclusiveness" to reveal their actual intolerance, racism, bigotry, and deranged hate of we "deplorables", "clinging to our guns and religion". You know, those white guys who won two wars (my grandfather and father--unfortunately they wouldn't let us win mine) then worked their whole lives to make this country great...

the varying temps at idle come from the varying temps your motor is at and subsequent amount of engagement the viscous fan clutch is in. If you let your truck sit idle and get heat soaked to the point of the fan spinning constantly you would get much cooler AC than that of a cold motor idiling. Its a simple matter of airflow over the condenser.

My company is a Carrier dealer, but we also sell York, Ruud and Diakin. Daikin owns Goodman now I think? Or vice versa, still a Goodman product in my opinion. We've only been installing them for 3yrs, so I can't base what I know on longevity of the brand, but I do know they are a pain to install. Tape won't adhere to the air handler cabinets, have to use spray adhesive and pray (which is a huge deal when you're in an attic in the summer when it's 120-160 degrees). After taking apart the system and throwing it up into the attic and putting it back together, it's like a poorly designed puzzle. On the heat pump, the contactor is so close to where the high voltage feeds in, it's a pain to wire it in. The low voltage, you only have a 2"x2" box to wire all that in and shove in hopes that it won't fall out since it has no grommet to hold it in place. All the compressor/fan/control wires are also zip tied in the the way of everything so install/service is a PITA. But.... the system runs amazingly and is super quiet andddd it has a 12yr P/L. From an installers point of view, I hate them. But if I had one installed properly in my house, I would be pleased with how it performs and how quiet it is.

Oh btw, I serviced a Carrier system a month ago that was installed in 87. 1/2 mile from the beach. Still kicking

I'm guessing it was a heat pump since you're in OBX? And since it's a 1987 CARRIER I'm guessing it was a Round One?
