Went into the mountains and camped last night. Holy cow is there a LOT of forest service roads closed. It's sad. Memorial day weekend is going to be a cluster up there.

Hey guys! me, my wife and my two little guys are headed up to boise the beginning of August to poke around for a few days to see if it's a place we want to eventually move to to get the f out of CA. Can you recommend some places to check out and maybe some good camping that's off the beaten path?

If we like it we plan to head back up for a week or two in February to check out the winter scene.

    Thanks in advance!

We're also considering CO as well and hear it's the same deal there. Our reasons for moving are the bs laws in Ca and my love for hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking etc. Has us searching for another state to move to... hopefully one that won't follow suit with similar laws in the future

We were wanting to camp in the Deadwood/Julie creek area.(East of Garden Valley/lowman area) Ended up driving to a locked gate at Clear Creek and spending the night off the road, it wasn't horrible but it still sucks being locked out. I'd suggest checking the forest service website for closures before going anywhere. Do they even post closures?

    Edit* https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/boise/alerts-notices
Looks like some may open up this week.

Its very common around here for roads to remain closed until mid June or July to help keep the roads in good shape instead of people slipping through the mud and snow
