I think you can do it with the Hypertech.

Wow i have no issue with mine running 285/70/17! It does hold 4th gear longer but thats whole point,65 on the freeway i am in 5th gear getting 18+ MPG's now i love this little Black box. When i hit about 75 it will cruise in 6th gear, but here in SoCal open freeways are a thing of the past.Directions does say it gets better after a period of time, but like i said i love mine!

From that video looks like the hypertech just modifies the speed displayed in the cluster, meaning the truck will still think its going at 60mph although the speedo would correctly display 64 mph (using Stephen's example). So if there is any speed feedback from the truck used by the OP's shift controller, it would remain unaltered by the hypertech.

    a bunch of mods

Check out one of my earlier posts regarding the shift-points of 4th and 5th gear:

When looking at that shift you need to think of it not for what RPM it is running in 4th, but think of it as what RPM it would be running in if it made the upshift to 5th at that point. The truck would suffer a significant drop in power as this engine does not produce strong low-end torque. The shift-map programming of the SS pro will maintain 4th gear to about 56-57 mph, so if you are light on the throttle, you should see it normally shifting up to 5th at this point. Once in 5th, it will maintain 5th gear down to about 50mph before downshifting back to 4th unless you get back on the throttle, at which point it will downshift at higher-speeds as needed. Per the Toyota Tacoma service-manual, the maximum 'wide-open-throttle' OEM shift-point for 4th-5th gear is quoted as 130-143 mph!. At 55-56 mph, the RPM is not too high, it is only different from the OEM 'D' mapping, so it may take some getting used to.

My whole point is with bigger tires it pushes that shift to around 61 - 63 for me on my speedometer maybe because the increased load? so when it does go into 5th around that range im actually going way faster than 56-57 because the tires. I took it out for a drive today again and took my kid to her nephews house and averaged 17 there and on the way back I was trying to force it to go into 5th by not using cruise control. I am just saying if I abide the speed limit laws which around where I live is 55-60 and I have to go slower so that way my actual speed matches the area I am in it forces me to stay in 4th. If I want it to shift to 5th I have to SPEED. I hope this all makes sense. Besides that really everything is golden. I am just saying its forcing me to speed just to get it into 5th and it wont go into it with cruise on even if im 61-63+ on the speedometer

What size tire are you running? You can also check your speed with your GPS. My 285/70/17's at 65 on the speedo is only 3 MPH more on my GPS. 17 MPG's are pretty good with oversized tire's !

I can average 18-20 just with D. I never floor the truck and all the on ramps on the highways around here are long. That is my tire size I just linked too stock vs what I got.

Well if your happy with D keep in D once you get up to your desired speed . But just remember the 1st incline or hill get ready for all the downshifting & upshifting .Try and drive for a while with the unit on and get use to the new found power band!

If you get a chance get out somewhere where the speed limit is higher say 70-75 drive for about 3 miles then look in the rear view mirror and see that that shit eating grin on your face then you will understand!

I have not received mine yet, but I will probably use S mode until highway speed and kick it over into D . We will see when it arrives.

I hope DZ Customs Innovations doesn't mind me reposting this email I received:

    Dear Matt,

You have been identified as one of the initial users of the ShiftSense Pro in your Toyota Tacoma. Thank you again for your purchase! We have been listening to customer feedback and strive to provide the best possible product which meets our customer's needs. Some of the initial users have brought to our attention the desire for the unit to allow shifts from 4th to 5th gear at a lower speed than the current 56-57mph minimum speed. Therefore, we have developed and tested an alternate programming which will be incorporated for new production units. This programming allows shift-up to 5th gear at speeds of approximately 52mph. We would like to allow you the opportunity to incorporate this programming-preference in your unit as well, if you are interested. This will be provided to you free of charge through a replacement 'chip', which can be plugged into the ShiftSense Pro unit. The update requires removing the cover-lid, unplugging the existing chip, and inserting the new chip.

If you are interested, please reply to this email and we will mail you the replacement chip, along with detailed instructions for installation.

Thank you again for your purchase. We hope that you are pleased with the product. We welcome you to post a Product Review to our website so that others can benefit from your experience. As a growing business, we know how scarce time can be, so we especially appreciate your time and input.

    Sincerely,

    DZ Custom Innovations, LLC.

It's awesome they're listening to feedback and trying to improve the device for existing customers at no extra cost. Amazing product and company!
I know many are frustrated that there is no pre-order as they are backlogged, but I encourage you to remain excited and confident when the next opportunity arises!
