5100's

Just did a quick search and pulled up that 5100's are 300? Is that for all 4 or just 1? What max tire size can i fit with those? thanks

Around 300 dollars should get you all 4 shocks- when they aren't backordered like crazy.

And you can fit a 285/70R17 or 285/75R16....Roughly a 33 inch outside diameter.

 

$300 for two is a rip off.

$300 for all four is a smokin' deal.

 

I bought my 5100's from downsouth motorsports (a vendor on this forum) for roughly $300. That is $300 for all 4 shocks. Then i bought the OME 885 coil springs for about $170 from the same vendor.

Upon installation I left the 5100's at the stock setting (0") and installed them in the 885 coils which gave me close to 3" of lift up front, no additional lift in the rear.

The ride feels more solid than stock. You will feel most of the small bumps a little more but when offroading, It'll make a big difference in performance.

I put 265/70/17 Nitto TG on my truck after the lift. You can fit a 285 but with some trimming and from what i've read, you will rub when off roading. That's why I went with the 265. With this tire I can do whatever I want and absolutely no rubbing or trimming.

 

everyone seems to love the 5100 billys. I think they are completely overrated. Hear me out:

My buddy bough them years ago for his 06 tacoma. We both thought they were cool and set them to the 2.5" setting which is the max. After we installed them we stepped back and were like wow! looks good leveled it out....took it down the road and rode like shit, harse ride for such a little lift. He kept it on there for about a month and blew his right front cv joint doing moderate wheeling at a local trail.

We replaced the cv joint and dropped it down the 1.75 setting or w/e it was and his 285's started rubbing real bad, so we trimmed up the wheel well like most. But at this new setting the truck barely looks lifted...

Long ass story short, buy a real lift kit. and if you dont have the money go for the low range offroad kit which sells for 300 complete same as the billys. Looks better, and comes with a diff drop kit to save those cv's.

I have been wheelin for years, was a jeep guy switched to an old fj and now this tacoma. Low range is an award winning offroad company who has built some of the most amazing Fj's known to man...trust me.

They started designing a small lift kit for the tacoma. It is a simple kit just a top strut spacer which does not preload the stock coil for a harsh ride and a 1'' rear block tapered to keep a nice driveline angle, and that all important yet simple diff drop.

however their machenics and engineers have took an 07 taco and beat the liven sh*t out of it with this kit on it ( i have seen the truck) and nothing broke...and nothing has broken on mine.

Does the job, lifts the truck, clears 285/70's, keeps stock ride, and keeps almost stock geometry.period
