I didn't see much out there on the installation so I'd thought I'd share some step by step instructions for a 3rd gen fog light install. I went with the Baja Designs Squadron-R Sport Wide Cornering fog lights with the Tacoma install kit: Baja Designs SKU 447110: Toyota, Tacoma(12-17)/4Runner(10-17)/Tundra(14-17) FPK. I wanted to maximize the fog light functionality while staying street legal. Enjoy:

    1. Remove OEM plastic fog light surrounds. I gently pried them straight out from the grill. You do not need to remove the bumper or the grill or anything else for the removal/installation. In fact I don't even think you need to remove these surrounds if you wish to remove/install the fogs from behind.

    2. Remove OEM fog lights. There is a single phillips head screw behind the OEM fog light (upper corner), that you can reach down behind the headlight assembly and unscrew. Unclip the OEM wiring connector.

    3. Prepare the Squadron-R fog lights mounting hardware with the Tacoma install kit. The instructions are pretty straightforward, and here are a few pictures of lights with the brackets installed to augment the instructions:

    4. Prepare the wiring harness. The connector on the Squadron will not connect to the Tacoma, you need to use the supplied weatherproof connector/adapter harness in the Tacoma kit. The plastic connector was not connected to the Blue/White wires, so READ THIS CAREFULLY before doing so:

BLUE ON THE ADAPTER HARNESS to BLACK ON THE FOG LIGHT
BLUE ON THE ADAPTER HARNESS TO WHITE ON THE VEHICLE

Be sure you understand how the connectors go together before inserting the harness wires in the adapter harness connector as stated. (I may have had only one of the lights working on my first install....)

    5. Install the light by sliding the two tabs into the plastic grill then securing the upper corner slotted mount of the fog light bracket with the same single phillips head screw that was removed previously.
OPTIONAL: I drilled an additional hole in the plastic bumper and zip-tied the lower corner as well for additional security.

    6. Re-install OEM plastic fog light surrounds.

    Donezo!

Think this upgrade is brighter than putting an OPT7 LED bulb in stock housing?

Haven't compared these side by side but lumen rating in my experience from both mountain biking and vehicle modifications is usually a good measure. Baja Designs Squadron R-Sports are 1,800 lumens each....

    Yes . much brighter.

I did both. Plus, there is a better light distribution depending on the lens you choose.

Ok, I put the OPT7 bulb in my fog housing and it's just ok. I'm thinking about ordering the BD Squadron pro's (4900 lumens) with the combo mode and the Toyota adapter now. Damn this forum's costing me too much money!

The Pros are absolutely not meant for the road. Don't be that guy.

if you plan on using them for fog or street driving, you want the cornering lens, not the combo. and not the pro's. just a heads up.

Ok, so the pros are a no go for street use. So go with the sports? Why not the combo sport then? Has the fog and driving Cree LED's and seems like a good option.

Why the cornering and not the combo?

The combo sends too much light too high up. Even the sports are as bright as your headlights... using the combo makes it more like your high beams.

Nice to know. I'm currently working on getting the same style kit as above before ordering a bumper down the road. Guess I'll change my order that I'm in contact with for the cornering only.

I doubt you'll be disappointed*, mine are fantastic. Oh, and aim them down a few degrees, even the cornering sends quite a bit of light upward. :)

*Unless you're expecting them to be the be all end all of offroad racing lights. In which case, get the combo pros, but definitely don't ever turn them on on-road.

I'm getting Squadron R Sports in amber. Contacted seller about the combo, but I'll just get the wide corner model instead. I'll be getting a light bar down the road, so it'll all be okay!

I'm hoping the install on my 2nd gen is the same/as easy. Anybody know if you can go straight in thru the surround like OP did. Not having to get behind or under the bumper?

So I got mine in. No blue, it's a deep maroon. When I line them up, it doesn't match the connection clamp on the truck. Lights turn on with it on backwards. Can't be easy.
