    Really want to pull the trigger on some 255's Cooper ST. However, what are some pros and cons running 255 compared to a 285? Is it just more surface area?

    Never ran 285's, but...

    255's will be a little lighter, and have less rolling resistance from the smaller contact patch which should help a little with mpg. But still, you're not going to get good mpg on 33's so who cares.

    285's look better to many because they're wider. Will be heavier and a little more rolling resistance which might hurt mpg more. Again, you're not going to get good mileage on 33's anyway, so who cares?

    255's will require less trimming because they're skinnier.

    285's will give a little more "float" = might ride a little smoother

    255's will give a hair more ground clearance.

    I'd say all these differences are fairly small. Of all of them, tire weight will be felt the most.

    So, do you like the wide or skinny look?

    You're awesome thanks. Really cutting down what I want to get. Was going to go with some Falken atw3 285s, heard hit or miss so i'll probably end up going with either cooper STxxx 255 or 285s. just got decide what I want.

    In the last 3 months I've became a BIG fan of the Cooper STT PRO's. No 255's, but the 285 is a smooth rolling tire, ESPECIALLY for a mud tire. I've already got 7500 miles on 'em with right at 1/64th wear measured.

    In general around here, the wider tire is gonna be better off-road. I'd say the biggest problem you'll have with the skinnier tires is mud that you can't reach the dry ground through. You'll get stuck pretty quick. Everything else, advantage wise, is probably negligible. I'd argue the wider tires will be better in the rocks. It also depends on what tire you're talking about, the load rating on it, what psi you run, how heavy the truck is, your driver skill, etc ....

    33s are small enough to where I'd tell you the same as Carter: what do you think looks better? Go with that.
