    Fuck yeah I can

4cyl and manual has plenty of power. Shift at 3k. I have 265/75/16, and no felt loss. I don't know man. Lot of whiners on this board, some for good reason, but this configuration is beastly and I have nothing but good things to say. Most fun Tacoma I've ever owned, and I drive it like a sports car.

You'll be disappointed coming from a Tundra. Good, reliable little engines, just underpowered.

Not getting rid of my Tundra, just getting a Tacoma for my kid. I'll go for the 6 cylinder.

Underpowered for sure but gets the job done, I wish there were more aftermarket performance stuff out there

I'm a fan of my 4 banger as well, +1 for the manual. The one I test drove was auto and it seemed fine to me for the few miles behind the wheel.

My buddy had an old 87 4 Runner with pretty big tires and that thing was dreadfully slow LOL.. but he never got stuck in the snow! It just took him about 10 minutes to get up to 60 on the freeway..

2.7 4x4 manual Access Cab FTMFW. Built in Texas, and has the larger 8.75" rearend.

Mine started to loosen up around 15k miles. It was really tight for the first 5. I love it. The 15+ 2.7's have dual VVTI which makes a big difference over the older 2.7's. I pass 3rd and 2nd gens in the mountains all the time, I'm just turning higher rpm's :D

The 2TR-FE is a legendary 4 cyl that's got decent torque/power for it's size and has been used in commercial vehicles around the world for the last ~15 years. They just don't fail. We're lucky to have it as an option. Of course pretty much anything would beat you in a race and you have to get used to the idea of using all your RPM range when loaded but it was designed to be run like that. I run 32" tires with stock gearing frequently loaded to max payload around northern california including the sierras. I certainly have to rev it up over passes but it's always up to the task and could handle more. It's the only engine I'd buy in a new tacoma right now. Oh yeah and off road in 4 LO it's an absolute monster and will climb up a wall.

That said I wouldn't get one with an auto. A 4 cyl toyota truck with an auto is borderline sacrilegious.

My 4 banger has a little more horsepower than my 2001
6 cylinder Ranger. When I say "a little" I mean the difference "on paper" of the listed specs of each vehicle shows only a 6hp difference. But under real world driving conditions my Taco 4 banger feels much more powerful and responsive than the 6 cylinder Ranger.

My Taco also get's better gas mileage than the Ranger and the damn Taco truck is much bigger than my Ranger.

Maybe I'm easily impressed, but it blows my mind a bit that this Taco 4 cylinder is what a 6 cylinder truck used to be and way better in so many ways.

To be fair, the comparison between my 2001 Ranger and my 2016 Taco is a difference of 15 years worth of tech advancements, etc... but this Tacoma was a huge step up in every way possible.

I feel dang lucky to have the one I have because I haven't found another one. It's not a base model and it's not the high end high dollar grandpa comfort special either. I don't need or want most of the tech crapola that mine came with.

So in summary, I'm happy with mine.
