which trailer hitch?

I have a 2010 4x4 access cab with a 4 banger. it did not come with a hitch or wiring.

What is the best fitting hitch, doest hang low enough to cause any hang ups?

is it worth getting the factory one?

 

I got an Uhaul hitch off ebay for $114.00 delivered. Easy to install and doesn't hang low. 5000 pound capacity..

I second BigMac... I had a UHaul and it was a really nice hitch. Didn't hang down and it was nicely made.

Subscribed.........Have noticed U-Hauls were less expensive, but wasn't sure of the quality. Now...what about electrical harnesses? Are the harnesses different for '09 and'10 Tacos because of the LED tails? If so, can someone recommend a maker?

i fyou go stock, you have extremely good quality and weight handling, the stock is rated as class 5 hitch i believe, mote than enough is better than not enough

 

hi-jack away, that was my next question. i think the oem one runs about 80-100 bucks

i have made a it a point to never rent a uhaul again, but i might have to look at there hitches new.

oem is really a good idea, i dont know wha tthe others cost. but keep in mind, you want more then the truck can pull, not pull more than you hitch canhandle..its just smart business. you dotn wanna cheap out on a hitch

true, but i didnt buy this truck to tow much. just mainly a few brush runs and to pick up fire wood. the oem one is twice the price as the others and i am not sure that it is twice the quality

I think I saw on here in one of the threads that the Curtis harness would not cause problems with the LED tails on the 09 and 10 models, as some might. OEM is probably the best choice for harness too, but it is about twice the cost of the curtis, I think.

 

yes the OEM harness runs 139.00.i just priced it yesterday it is a very nice kit though.

 

I have the Curt hitch on mine but if I had to do it over again I think I would've gone with the Valley/Uhaul hitch because it doesn't require removing the bumper bolts to install.

In my case we had to enlarge two of the holes on the hitch to get the bumper bolts to slide back through, but not before screwing up the threads on one of them.

I hadn't heard anyone else complain about that issue so perhaps my truck or hitch was a bit out of spec. In any event the Valley/Uhaul hitch is an easier install if you are doing it yourself.

 

I agree with getting the Uhaul hitch, but I have always had problems with the light converters that Uhaul uses. after a couple of years they stop working and you need to get a new one. Had one on my 2000 1st gen and when it would go bad it would blow the fuse for the tail lights.


I bought a converter from Etrailer.com that plugged into the wiring harness, cost about $40 and has been running fine on my 2008. Very easy to install.

 

I have the same truck as you (except '09) and I have the uhaul hitch. Haven't used it for towing a trailer yet but have used it with a shackle receiver to pull stuff out. Doesn't hang low and the electrical connector doesn't hang low either.
