I'm taking a 4-5 week road trip this summer and I'll be going through the North West. If anyone can give me some tips and pointers about what I definitely need to do or see I'd appreciate it. I started a dedicated thread for the entire trip here:

Looks like a solid road trip.

Are you looking to stick close to the highways, or will you be able to venture off the beaten path?

Without getting super detailed, and in no particular order, here are some POI I'd recommend checking out. You can look them up and decide if they're places you'd like to see up-close. In my adventures all of these places have been very memorable (sights, geography, activity, beauty, etc). The NW/PNW is a geographically stunning area, and the following will really give you a glimpse:

    -Yellowstone Nat. Park (Wyoming/Montana)
    -Glacier Nat. Park/Kalispell area (Montana)
-Craters of the Moon Nat. Monument (Idaho)
    -Sandpoint/Lake Pend Oreille area (Idaho)
    -Leavenworth (Washington)
    -Take a ferry. Because Washington.
    -San Juan/Orcas Islands (Washington)
-Olympic National Forrest/Olympic National Park (Washington) (Temperate Rainforest: Gorgeous mountains; big, old trees; lakes, rivers, hot springs, coast; lots of service roads to meander)
    -Kalaloch/Ruby Beach (Washington)
-Long Beach/Ocean Shores for some beach driving (Washington)
    -Mt. St. Helens (Washington)
    -Mt. Rainier (Washington)
    -Ape Caves (Washington)

I'm sure there are more that I can't think of, but this is a good start. There are a TON of amazing places to see, but these selections have been some of my very favorites, especially if you're into being outdoors or photography. Seriously beautiful places, and different from any other part of the states I've seen. If you have any specific questions on any of these, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

Also, by the looks of it you're gonna be near Black Bear Pass in Colorado. I'd definitely put that and Telluride on the list.
