Over the weekend I was putting on a set of new wheels and tires on my 2017 TRD Pro Manual Transmission with 2,800 miles on it and when I got to the back passenger side I noticed that with the e-brake engaged there was play in the wheel rotating back and forth. The truck was in gear and when I would rotate the wheel (maybe an 1/8 of a rotation if that) it would be a metal on metal sound at each end (slapping back and forth between the gears?). I just thought it was weird that the wheel would even move with the e-brake engaged since the drivers side didn't do this and the sound was rather loud which now I feel like I hear when driving over bumps our starting/coming from a stop occasionally (could just be going crazy) Is the emergency brake in the new Tacoma's different then most? Also I notice when coming to a rolling stop say when parking if I don't stop the car fully before pulling the e-brake up even slightly the car almost jerks to a stop as if it has some electronic feature. Any input would be appreciated.

Sounds like the rear brakes are not adjusted evenly , making one side grip first.

Something in my '17 TRD OR MT pass side ebrake became disconnected and made a squealing metal-on-metal sound after the dealer did my first tire rotation. It was quiet and normal until the wheels were removed and reinstalled. They checked it out right away and mechanic claimed there was a part that seemed installed incorrectly from factory.

Doesn't sound normal to me. Probably worth having them take a look.

Yeah wouldn't be surprised if the dealer tells you it's "normal" or you "voided the warranty" because you put on aftermarket wheels and tires.

Take it in. Don't attempt to check it yourself at this point. There's a gasket between the hub and drum that will tear if you remove the drum. It may/ may not cause you other issues once you reinstall it and the mating surface is lopsided from the thin gasket, unless you clean off gasket material. Let the dealer mess with it. It does sound like the parking brake lever isn't engaged equally on both sides. Odd chance that this may be the case since you don't have modified suspension, but one side of the parking brake cables may have a kink or a bend that's too tight causing uneven operation too. That metallic clanking is likely the sound of the shoes moving around as it lightly engaged against the drum. Your normal braking should work fine. The parking brake is a mechanical connection to the cable expanding the shoes and the normal braking is hydraulically actuated from wheel cyclinder.

    Gasket is part #2..

Went to the dealer today, was told there is nothing wrong with the emergency brake. They didn't even remove the wheel so I will be taking a look at it myself this weekend.
