OK thanks for the response. Did you do anything for rust prevention?

In my case I went Powder coat. The place does stuff for Toyota so I went factory crinkle matte finish. Six months no problems, but I don't really abuse my truck.

There is a community bolt on slider design here. I cut and bent set for my truck and my friends SB in a trade that he welds mine up.

Saved more than my ass on this trail, ended up taking this line head on was pretty smooth for the most part until I heard a thud...looked over to my wife And said oopps...lol I'm pretty sure my follow up sentence was "Aren't you happy you let me buy these mobtown sliders??" Hah6241755280_IMG_0490.jpg

Aftermath photo after cleanup of damage as you can see I landed pretty much on it directly. I wouldn't even want to think what it would of looked like without have my mobtown sliders on. 6176734608_IMG_0658.jpg

It's an angled rock slider I ordered them that way for that very reason.

Bamf uses that design. The front metal tab looks like it was bent too far.

It was, i'll bring the back out when I get back to work on them. My 80 yr old press brake is all our nothing. I didnt have 3/16" laying around so the long box plates are bent out of 1/4"

The RCI sliders are very well built. Got mine raw and painted them myself instead of the powder coating so that I could touch them up easily. Leave yourself a couple days for painting, it took me 2 cans of primer and 5 cans of paint. And that was after sanding and cleaning them up so the paint would stick well. Them being driving distance from me was also nice by keeping down the shipping cost.

It's good to see people in the Tacoma world comparing strength, design and actual real world use. I love lurking on these post to see if there is anything we need to improve or change. It's also nice to see so many vendors now making sliders for Tacoma's. It wasn't long ago that some vendors didn't see the Tacoma as worth making sliders for and the very few of us that were, were very small.

Sliders will always move a little bit, in our experience it's frame movement, slider movement and the body on frame giving the illusion of a lot of movement. The important part is did they protect your truck and do you have the right sliders for your application. Not everyone needs rock crushing strength, some people just need door protection and a place to lift from that doesn't weigh the vehicle down. While others want to pound the ever living snot out of them and still have their doors open.

We offer several styles and levels of rock sliders our all round tube sliders are for the overlanding, weekend warrior, I just want something there in case crowd. They are made of American HREW and will hold up well to moderate wheelin and abuse.
Our Hybrids and above are made out of DOM and are made for more hardcore use. But you also have to remember they are "sliders" not "slammers".

There is a difference between DOM and HREW but there is also a difference on where it's made. Check out this interesting article that was posted years ago about the difference. They did some very interesting test which has caused us to only search out certified or US spec material http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=60158.0

Not tooting our own horn but we were "one of the first" to offer "bolt on" for the first gen Tacoma's. Our first attempt I'll admit was pretty lame and required drilling 16 holes with a right angle drill and using unreliable self tappers. Later we went to a pinch style U bracket. Then in 2005 when the frames went to mostly C channel we went with a L bracket. At the time this was a huge improvement over the past. But as things evolved and customers wanted better we had to change as well. I will admit our tacoma's sliders were the last to get the new frame plates (sorry guys) but we now offer our full frame plates for Tacoma's. Every manufacture has to rely on their own experience and collective knowledge in their shop to build what they feel is best for the customers. I just wanted to say how lucky you guys are to benefit from that.

We as a manufacture feel capturing the bottom of the frame is essential for a stong mount that wont fail or bend. The side bolts in the side of the frame are there to hold the sliders up the bottom bolt holes that you have to drill 3 per side are there to keep them from folding up into your truck.

    Our old style brackets

Our new brackets fresh from the powder coater.

We don't recommend doing this your self, it was done with extreme care and we used floor jacks to get it up then rested it on the hilifts. it was to show the strength of sliders not hi lift jacks.

Great info. Mahalo. Also well put and truthful. You guys already have a lot of respect in the industry and like mobtown we try to support business with Hawaii ties.

I'm part native Hawaiian. I even have a Hawaiian middle name. I feel like that's a pretty good tie.

Edit: one of the reasons I ordered from you guys beefy sliders and good people.

    Very good ties.
I say Hawaii ties because I didn't want to say who is Hawaiian, not Hawaiian, local, etc. I personally am not Hawaiian, local boy born and raised. My wife is Hawaiian, and we both speak Hawaiian and teach Hawaiian language and culture. So I appreciate all those native or not, it's more about the aloha we have for this place Hawaii.

So you mean the Hybrids I bought three years ago use Dom attached to the square tube? I'll be jiggered, I thought it was HREW all along lol.

EDIT: I just want to add that buying from DO was one of the best experiences I've had buying truck parts. I was new to armor when I bought my sliders, before I bought them I stuck to gravel and forestry roads where sliders weren't necessary, and I needed a set in a week to go wheeling with some new friends I had made. Long and short the experience with DO was great from start to finish. I put calls into three different builders, I don't even think Pelfrey was a factor yet, and DO was the only one who gave me the time of day on the phone to answer questions. It was a girl, I can't remember her name, but she went through the installation, shipping times, and other miscellaneous questions I had. She even promised to go back and get the sliders that she had waiting, which were a step up from what I wanted to buy but her service talked me up into and I'm now glad to have, into packaging and out the door the same day. It's a good thing too because an issue with the shipping company delayed the shipment a few days. That extra effort meant they arrived on time. Literally I installed and then took my truck through some of the hardest wheeling it had ever done.

Now whenever I buy, it's either Pelfrey or DO. Just awesome people.
