I am VERY close to getting the Frontier Pro4X.

I like the Tacoma interior better but since I am limited to an auto, the spastic transmission drives me nuts.

I probably ruined myself by driving a pre-TSB 2016 that was awful, but now in the 2017s I drove I still sense it though much improved.

Sort of once you've seen it, it can't be unseen.

But you know that this new transmission is optimized for fuel economy. For a fuel economy bias transmission I think it does its job well.

I traded a brand new Frontier for my third gen after 4 months. It ran good, but fuel mileage and driving experience were horrible.

There are no photos of it out yet. The photos you are seeing are the International Versions which Ford has said will be different for the new North American model

Have you factored in total sales and more tacomas on the road?

This thread gave me the push to go drive a GMC Canyon diesel at lunch today. I've wanted to for awhile but just not done it. I have to admit that I really like the drive, adjustable seats and the pull of the small diesel. I mean really liked it. It shifted well and seemingly at the appropriate RPM. But, the interior is just so damn cheap feeling and flimsy.

Anyway, nice drivetrain but not nice bough overall to consider it for the cost.

My experience exactly. I didn't care that much for the interior over my Tacoma. They spruce up that interior and they have a buyer. Keep in mind too, the domestics will come down in Price if you haggle with them more than a Toyota dealer will... they're marked up higher. TrueCar shows these SLT Diesels going for $3k-$4k under MSRP in my area. You know you can do better than TrueCar if you're savvy on negotiating.

I have no expertise or knowledge per say, I would think that more gears would come from reduced range per gear, thus meaning more shifting to maintain the optimum as defined by the programming. It's my understanding that the gears can only be so big and so small, thus the reasoning behind my thinking.

Until they start using CVT's... Always in the power band. Conceptually pretty cool.

My mother in law has the older gen Colorado. The interior is made of the cheapest, flimsiest cost saving plastic ever imagined. There was an option to buy her out so she could get a convertible when she retired. I couldn't justify it on any level without lowballing her. It simply isn't a quality interior. It isn't just the trucks. I was going to keep my wife's Cobalt SS (turbo 260hp, 260ftlbs) because it is an absolute rocketship. In the end I looked at the interior and the cheap feel and put it up for sale.

My Tacoma is no luxury vehicle but even the cheap parts feel quality. Sure we could wish for better this or that but overall I am glad I ditched domestic trucks.

My reading on it is that only under 2 circumstances does it shift to every gear, under full throttle and during MPG testing. If you read any reviews on the 10 speed F150 they said it shifts less than the outgoing 6 speed. If it has plenty of power and programmed correctly then i don't see them being shifty.
