"Hard coded", I get it. I deal with the same here...I can usually turn it off though.

Eh, we're all "hard coded" to some degree.

I will be the first to agree that engineers don't have common sense, but we gotta respect logic, even if said engineers don't have any LMAO

Dropping the ball is (unfortunately) an industry-wide (if not world-wide across all industries) phenomenon.

    - Tech & tech-adaptation is growing at an absurd rate. Consumers demand more and more tech.
    - Safety and emission requirements are getting tighter and tighter with every day.
    - Global competition, outsourcing, undercutting, and idiotic, frivolous lawsuits are hurting the bottom line.

There is only one way to remain a player in this game, and that is to cut costs absolutely everywhere and provide the bare minimum that consumers are willing to pay for.

All manufacturers have gone downhill from their "glory" days. You get more safety, better emissions, more toys, less engineering quality, less user-serviceable parts, less choice when ordering options. The "quality" or "value" of the purchase will depend on the needs of the consumer in question. That's just how it is, and this trend will continue.

If you want the best of the best, buy a new Rolls Royce. But a $40k truck is never going to demand the same level of manufacturer attention... it's a cheap, utility vehicle.

All cars lose value over time and miles (collectors excluded) yes, but the sharp decline starts to soften, especially with 4x4 SUVs and trucks. A multitude of variables are involved.

I for sure agree.....but in this case the rate of depreciation doesn't matter. You're still throwing money away keeping the car if you're going to sell it anyway. Does this make sense to you?

It actually makes sense to sell the car AS SOON as you can, to try and get a better return PRECISELY because initially the depreciation is higher. Only later is the urgency to sell diminished because the rate of depreciation lessens, but you still want to get rid of it sooner rather than later.

Putting our previous debate aside I'm really just trying to help you now.

For a minute, let's refrain from the urge to deflect by making "industry excuses" and comparing our Toyota Tacoma to other auto manufacturers. I thought Toyota was above the fray? Are we now giving them a pass on quality standards?

So if we're going to compare then we can compare the fact that their initial quality has dropped to or below that of their competitors? Ouch.

No. Disagree. Still would choose toyota over chevy and gmc if we're talking midsize trucks. Did you see the posts of how many TSB the colorado had? Hell if we're talking any car. Honda, Subaru? Maybe, but that's not what you're getting at though.

Not really asking what you would pick. Your choice is obvious.

TSB = Automaker actually attempting to make things right. I don't see any issue there.

You have a fantastic way of twisting the argument smitty. No you cannot conclusively say that Toyota reliability has decreased below their competitors, if you define their competitors as chevy and gmc because we're talking about midsize trucks. Sort of a laughable idea really.

Okay, fair point on tsb. So next time toyota has a TSB or a recall you're not gonna say anything right? hahahahaha this guy

I don't think it's a deflection. If Toyota's quality has declined by (an arbitrary) x%, then it's a reasonable assumption that other manufacturers' quality had declined by a very similar x%, leaving Toyota in the same lead.

I know from my own experience that BMW and Mercedes (my last four vehicles) have followed suit in the same quality-decline path.

So if your kid's grades decline in school, you'll assume his classmates' grades have also declined. Off the hook!
