    just use a hose clamp..
but dont make it so obviously easy to remove (sorry dog tired), install it so you have to tighten it (or loosen it) from under the truck/between the bumper & body when the tailgate is open (cause that's how people steal them).
Guaranteed you'll never lose your tailgate..

btw-a pair of snip pliers will make short work of that cable, & "snips" are what most thieves commonly carry... (sorry again dog tired)

Well ASE we all know that locks are for honest people anyway. Any lock device including the hose clamp can be defeated. I feel the cable and hose clamp is cheap, easy , and just as good maybe better than the pop and lock devices

    Wife rolled it 3x mod...
About two months ago someone stole my tailgate, and since they are quite expensive i delayed on replacing it... till one day i spotted this Tacoma with mine on there's! (he was too lazy to remove the terrorist hunters licenses sticker i had on mine) I ended up following him for about 5 miles hanging back a ways and noted where he lived. I debated for the next couple of days weather to call the cops or take matters in to my own hands... well i drove past one night and it was parked out side and decided to take it back, sure enough my vin on it! I did the smart thing and removed the sticker and de-badge it so that this guy would not figure it out. Then about 4 days later drove past again and there was his truck with another tailgate on it and it was not a brand new one so i figured that he had stolen that one also. So what did i do??? i took that one also, serves him right! I ended up using that one for target practice in the desert because i did not want to get in trouble for stolen property. Now i know that maybe his original one got taken from him in the first place and i felt sorry for taking that second one, but i felt like i was doing Karma's job plus payback is a bitch!
