Click the red button until it says "frequency mode" from there you can use the keypad at the bottom to put in whatever channel everyone is using (usually 151.625 the weatherman channel).
If it's not changing check the top right corner if there's a little key icon. That means it's locked. Hold the bottom right button with a key on it to unlock it, set you station, and then you're ready to go.

Mike, I know Madison will be in AZ this coming weekend. If you're around, why don't you join us for another run up Lusardi Canyon? Sunday morning at 8:00.

I'd like to but my family is in town for my cousin's college graduation. My aunt has had everything planned for months, my mom would kill me if I missed anything on the agenda.

Ok, does that mean you're out for THIS Sunday? Maybe we should postpone and see if we can schedule another day soon

Sorry for the dumb question, but I just read that I can't transmit on this particular radio without a license. I thought it had some frequencies though that I COULD use. If this is correct, all I can do with it (legally) is just listen for what others are discussing while we're wheeling? That doesn't sound like any fun.

Technically yes, you need a license to operate a HAM radio...but there are particular channels that are sort of "overlooked" and unofficially "ok" for public use. There was a link posted on the Wheelers Anon thread a few months back that had them.

For what it's worth, myself and almost everyone I wheel with uses a HAM radio + those stations and no one has ever given us any grief over it.

You're welcome to come. Just be aware that this is a 2wd friendly trail. Not too challenging but good scenery. Long drive from Woodland Hills for this trail.
