I am not married divorced in 2003 got through paying womb rent a few years ago.

I have what I have because half of it is through work and gets reduced to half value the minute I retire. Getting a policy at 55 vs getting one at 30 is a bit harder IE no medical tests etc at 30 yes you pay longer but you have it versus not being able to get it later. I wanted to make sure I knew what I have to live on when I retire so I started paying for the policy at 30 knowing it will drop off at 75 and if I haven't it cashed out my chips by then I get a small pay out from it. I have another policy strictly end of life stated flat value covers anything I might owe at that time and the cost to fire up the oven etc. If you are a vet and are under VA care they offer various policies based on your rating etc it costs 15 dollars every 3 months for 10K in my case and It will never be dropped no matter my medical condition/s. After that I have several small policies from various groups by virtue of lifetime memberships in said groups these are just bonus ones that cost again nothing. If you look around you might be surprised where you can pick up cheap policies from organizations you belong to accounts at credit unions as long as you make sure you meet the qualifications etc IE do your homework and make sure they are all listed with account numbers etc in your will/trust if it is free or costs pennies why not. My insurance stuff cost per annum is approx $500.00 I spend more than that going out to eat/coffee a year.

People in my profession do not have a long life expectancy after retirement https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4734369/ So I felt it prudent especially if you add in the military stuff and you get the picture . Family history says 72 to 75 my father is currently beating that at 75 .. on both accounts he retired at 57 and is still rolling along .

As for setting up a trust etc you will need an Trust attorney to do so and do it correctly so it is fully protected but that is also on the laws in your state.

If I was buying a house right now I would pay the extra for the life insurance they offer on it if I had to take a 30 year note then it is paid off and can be sold . But my house is already paid off I took a 15 year note and ate a lot of ramen doing double payments :} It can be done if you put your mind to it .
