What kind of rack is that?

 

Got my compressor installed about a month ago, but finally got it written up and posted to my build thread. Came out great but is definitely custom. Not very much room in the engine compartment of a 2000 V6 with ABS, cruise control, and AC!

ended up doing a custom intake with my snorkel which also allowed me to fab up a special little bracket that puts the twin right inline with my Off-Grid Engineering aux battery. very pleased with the end result!

Viar 2.5 gallon tank and compressor with air to air system at each wheel. Tank in spare tire compartment, compressor in bed compartment and switch in console switch panel in cab.

Looking for some guidance for my OBA install. Trying to figure out the proper placement of my fittings before routing the air lines. Came up with this so far -

Compressor w/ check valve on leader -> water separator -> T-fitting w/quick disconnect -> ball valve -> check valve -> tank (safety valve, drain valve, pressure switch, pressure gauge) -> regulator -> manifold (safety valve, 2 outputs)

Is this a good schematic? T-fitting w/quick disconnect after the water separator to air up tires in the event of tank failure. I'm curious as to if I should route the pressure gauge from the tank or the manifold.

 

Would be easier to visualize if you Draw it up.

1/4 turn ball valve. It's describing the internal parts that control flow. Gate valve, Ball valve.....

 

I know what it is, but how is it used in an OBA setup? I've built a couple of OBA systems, and didn't use a ball valve.

I used 3 of them in my most recent. 2 on the control unit and one on the tank. Pics 5 posts above yours. They are very common in oba set ups.

 

Common in garage/shop air installations, I think you're being bold stating they're very common in OBA installations.

 

Made a quick diagram in paint. How does this look as far as where everything should be? Quick disconnect before ball valve and tank/manifold in case of tank failure so I could theoretically shut off the tank/manifold and use the QD before the ball valve in an emergency.

 

I can understand how a ball valve would be used to shut-off parts of the system ....
BUT, in the above situation, the ball valve would also be shutting off the pressure switch. How would the compressor be controlled in such an emergency?

I'd put the manifold between the water separator, and attach the pressure switch to the manifold, not the tank.

 

I agree with the above about the Pressure Switch. If you shut off the tank you have no pressure control of the compressor.

 

Is that group buy for the ARB compressor still active? There doesn't see to be any response in that thread.

Roger that, thanks for the input guys. Should I put the pressure gauge on the manifold or tank?

What are you gonna use the outputs for? What's the purpose of the regulator? Current design has tank at ##psi regulated and manifold is at Pressure switch rated psi.
