Get the warranty!

The other day i took my truck in 15 mins before closing because 20mins before i looked and my truck was dripping A LOT of oil. They told me to come back the next day (monday) but i didnt feel comfortable driving it like it was.

They took it back to look at it and the service guy came back and told me my crankshaft valve was leaking, and that i was smart for not wanting to drive it (duh!). Well today they called me and now they are replacing the whole crankshaft because it is fairly common in the 2005's to have this problem.

I am soo glad i got the warranty. 2 weeks ago it covered $1400 and now this week im sure its covering well over a grand. I dont get it back till thursday. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm glad you got the warranty, but please tell me WTF is a crankshaft valve? Did they check your muffler bearings too? Or your headlight fluid?

I spoke to a dealer buddy of mine who leveled with me. When he did his research he recommended me not to get the warranty, perhaps it is the manual transmission or the 4 cylinder. He also mentioned that I can still get a warranty outside of toyota at a later date, if I needed. In your case this worked out, good for you.

 

Good thing you got it, always get the extra coverage. My grandpa bought extended warranty on his powerstroke already has had 2 injectors bite the dust at $900 a piece and today his cam sensor is showing he has another problem.

 

30 years of driving Toyota's and never needing a warranty, but my 08 won't be owned one day without a warranty because of all the quirks this one has

Just spent $1200 on ONE wheel bearing at Toyota... need to replace two more as well

 

i alwasy get the warranty as well, my 20000 (when new) mazda speed protege had almost 30k in warrantied repairs, including 2 engines...

Glad it worked out for you. I have never purchased an extended warranty and never needed one. If I had a repair that would be covered under warranty, at this point, I'd still be ahead of the game due to all the money I've saved not buying warranties all these years.

My new 2010 Tacoma is the FIRST new vehicle I've EVER owned; one of the reasons I bought a NEW truck was b/c it came with a warranty.

OF COURSE I BOUGHT the extended warranty; if they had offered me a 15 year warranty, I would have bought that, too!

For the next 7 years when anything goes wrong, I can say, "here are the keys guys, please fix it!" Up until last year I drove beaters that made me anxious if I had to drive more than 30 minutes; now I've got PEACE OF MIND!

I got the Platinum warranty from my dealer for $800 after telling them Troy offered it for that much...

Would wheel bearings be covered? I would think those are a 'wear and tear' item. Or I could be sadly mistaken

I turned down the extended warranty. I got a call 2 weeks later from some survey guy asking why and I said "It's a Toyota, it doesn't need a warranty". Gawd I hope I don't end up eating those words...

Well, mine came with 7/100k drivetrain warranty at 48k. So far.....rear main seal has been replaced at 51k which meant I also got new gear oil in the tranny & around 60k they had to replace rear axle seals & because they blew me off the first time at 51k trying to point out the moistness back there, it costed them a set of rear brake shoes since the leak fouled the shoes & got new fluid in the differential. Next, it seems they'll be handling a developing leak on the timing cover where it meets the head & block on the passenger side of the motor. At 70k now, not wanting to wonder how much other shit they'll need to address before getting to 100k. These days, IMO, unless you have pretty much a shop of your own & a lot of free time & you enjoy fixing lackluster manufacturing materials & practices, it's fuckin nuts not to get a warranty buying anything new or even relatively new. It's your choice of course, but I don't consider paying for half ass bullshit and wasting my free time and money to repair something that should hold up a lot better my cup of tea. Mods at my discretion are one thing, lame ass problem chasing is another. Seems more and more these days all you can depend on is shit fucking up with normal use way before it's time and being let down and monetarily raked over the coals. Fuck that shit!

Oil seals are nothing "newly designed". It's cornercutting pennypinching buyer beware lame ass bullshit. Shouldn't R&D for however long they do that uncover such shit before mass producing "newly designed" vehicles? Nothing you buy at the dealership is "newly designed", they been working on that for years. I know what you are saying tho and I think you know what I'm saying too.

What about the fact that all years of 2nd gens have mindless issues? The statement about 1st year of production is kind of irrelevant here now isn't it?

 

That is how I feel too except my first Toyota was in 1987 so its 23 yrs & counting.
I never bought one with my other Toyota trucks ever but my 2006 had some "quirks" during its first 36k that those other trucks did not have so right before the 3/36 ended, I bought a discounted platinum plan thru Troy & already have used it at 41k. I dunno, usually I am not an extended warranty fan at all & do not bash the product. I'm glad for the OP its working out & hope all our trucks go far with or without our warranties.
