I'm 6'4" and vehicle fitment is extremely important, more important than about anything else. For that reason I test drove my Tacoma four times, the last time taking around 45 minutes. When initially looking at Tacomas I learned quickly that a sunroof was a deal breaker. I tested ergonomics specifically for my height and 250 lb weight. I sat on the lot and checked seat position, moving the seat adjustment through each increment. I checked ingress. I checked reach to controls. I checked everything I could. I checked seat bolsters and butt comfort. I checked knee position. I checked leg extension. I checked range of motion. I just checked!

What did I learn? I now get into the Tacoma "differently" than I got into my previous vehicle. It is not worse or better, it is just different. Same for my seating position and reach for steering wheel. I now sit a bit more "upright" than I did in my previous vehicle. Lack of sunroof allows the headroom required for this and a more upright seat back also puts my shoulders a bit closer to the steering wheel, which allows for greater reach to the wheel and controls.

OP what I am saying is, before you do something drastic, go out in the vehicle and just sit there. Make minute seat adjustments to the back and see what happens. It could be that nothing will help and you need to do something different, but at least in my case I changed what I did previously and it helped. Good luck.

Does the no sunroof really give more headroom? If so one more reason I hate having the sunroof on my truck. I almost want to take the sliding panel off and have an upholstery shop put new fabric as close to the top as possible

Here's some quick reference info on seating H points in car design. I'm sure Toyota uses this also, but seems like they haven't changed much to accommodate a better lower seat adjustment, even if it were with manual adjusters.

The way that the seats mount to the floor make complicate things when it comes to just putting spacers under the frame....the front of the seat frame mounts at an angle, while the back mounts flat. So unless you fab something up, I don't know that shimming the front of the seat up is really an option.

You might try getting a thin (1-2 inch) piece of foam and try driving around with it under your thighs. If you find the right height, take the truck to an an upholstery shop and have them add a small amount of height to the front of the seat bottom. I doubt that would cost very much and could be done easily.

Like I said, I had the same issue, but don't even notice anymore after four months of ownership. Maybe give it more time?

This is also good advice. Now that I'm thinking about it, I probably "man-spread" more in this truck than I do in other cars.....knees are further apart to compensate for the lack of thigh support. I've adjusted my seating position in that way to find comfort.

Absolutely. The first one I test drove had a sunroof and it took about one minute to figure that wasn't going to work. I sat in a SR next with no sunroof and that gave me about 2" extra of head room! Then I just had to wait until they got the right vehicle that had the right combination of options.

I purchased without sunroof as I found the models with sunroofs had terrible headroom. If the seat had adjustable height then maybe this wouldn't be a problem, but didn't want to hit my head on every bump :annoyed:

it dropped my bottom. i didn't have them lower my knee position, only my butt. my issue was the back of my right thigh getting pinched and going numb. it worked out perfectly, but we may have slightly different fixes required. I'm just under 6'2".

the shop is Jay's Upholstery in Denton, TX. they are awesome, experienced, too. let'em know i sent you if you call.

Yeah, you lose a few inches with the mechanism, tray, and headliner bump.

Damn. I wish I had known that when I bought the truck. The seats are my only real complaint I have. It's not terrible but it would have been nice to have an extra few inches up top

Not to derail the original point of this thread, but does anyone out there know of any other solutions to raise the rear-view mirror?

I've browsed the threads for the Birddawg & ImMrYo mirror risers and have only seen it on a few 3rd Gens. Sounds like it is "plug and play" for some , and for others it takes a little finagling to function. Also looked into having an auto glass installer physically move the mirror mounting button, but they wanted to charge me $40 to do so. Just looking for the easiest and most cost effective route-

I'm 6'4. I have a sunroof. I have long arms so I manage with a combination of pushing the seat pretty far back on the track and seat back lean. Not the most comfortable position I've ever had, but doesn't bother me. I do sometimes think about visiting an upholstery shop to have them take some foam out.

The telescope seems about 2" short right? Go to the dealer and sit in a 4runner, use the POWER seat controls to tilt the base as low as it will go in the back and keep it up in the front. You'll notice it drops about 2" and makes all the difference in the world. Looking at the rear seat mounts in the Tacoma I don't see why you couldn't drop 2 inches off them with a little simple fab work. I avoided the sunroof for the extra head room since in the passenger seat in my wife's runner with the sunroof my head is touching. Of course the passenger seat in the runner is not powered and was why I was so worried when I bought the Tacoma without a test drive. Without the sunroof though the truck works for me, I would like some more travel on the steering wheel though.

Agree the telescope seems about 1-2" too short. I'm a 5'10" female with long legs and in the most comfortable position, my arms are fully straight to reach the steering wheel. For that reason I bring the seat in a notch and cramp my legs a little.
