Any one here got a 1911?

It is heavy as hell. Don't carry it much for sure.

I got pretty big dick-skinners too. It ain't bad to shoot. I put 50-100 rounds through it at a time. The extended mag really makes a difference over the regular one.

 

I really want to shoot it. I mean it's a original all metal Colt. It's worth about the same either way from what I've been finding since not too many people collect the Belleau Woods.

I'd never own a vehicle that I could never drive or one that I'd choose not to drive.

But.... It's kinda cool.

How old is this gun? I thought Clark Customs were from the late 1950's, but I may be mistaken.

You are correct Clark customs was founded in 1950 but is still in business today run by third-generation Clark family. This gun was built in the 1995

My first and hopefully not my last is a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm.

 

My 1911 is an Ed Brown Kobra Carry. I've owned several 1911's but this is one that will still be in my safe when they are patting my face with a shovel.

 

I love mine.

 

Got my Springfield 45 out today and put a few rounds downrange. Had been too long.

 

Very nice. I really like the recessed magazine well, I wish more companies offered that from the factory. I know WC's and Les Baers aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

 

Springfield Armory 1911 GI that I have been modifying for some time now. Short list of mods are
Wilson Combat magwell, skeleton trigger, skeleton hammer, beaver tail, hex stainless screws, g10 tactical grips, pearce finger grip, dan wesson extended mag release & safety controls, polished feed ramp, polished ejector port, Springfield range officer springs

This is just off the top of my head I am sure I am missing a few things. It is still a work in progress. I have used this gun as a platform to explor the 1911 and do all the mods myself.

 

Hello, question about ejectors
My full size 1911 was having issues ejecting the casings, turns out the extractor rod (?) was bent down a bit from the factory. Sent it to Colt and they fixed it (presumably) I noticed that the new ejector is shorter by ~ half a cm. Is there a difference between the full length ejector vs a standard one? I haven't had a chance yet to put some rounds though, that'll be tomorrows fun.

let's start with what is your gun doing?

 

The issue was that the casings would get stuck in the chamber. Colt resolved the issue so the gun works fine for the time being (was able to put 70rnds through it this afternoon).

My question is what is the difference between an extended ejector and a standard? The firearm from the factory had an extended ejector and when Colt returned it, a standard ejector was installed.

 

There is no such thing, they are all the same overall length.

What happens is the ejector hook is located based off the slot in the back where the firing pin stop (FPS) goes through it. Length stays the same but appears to shorten or lengthen based on curvature (tension) put into the extractor. Also the location of the slot for the FPS. An extractor has a set length it needs to be. Between the hook and the breach face should be between .070-.074" roughly. The face of the hook shouldn't be long enough it's pushing the case off the breach face. If the case won't sit flush to the breach face because the extractor is pushing it off then it's to long. To change that length I usually relocate the FPS slot forward some hence pulling the hook back. Also if it's a small amount on the hook face and the space between the hook and breach face is correct than I file the face of the hook.

Tension, ability to clock, shape etc all play a role in reliability. When I do a reliability package it's very rare that a factory extractor and FPS survive the process, meaning they get replaced with oversized parts I machine to proper specs and hand fit. I hope this helped if not feel free to ask more questions.

Breach face was too narrow so I made it .005" over proper spec.

Ramp was too short so I machined it to proper specs, throated the barrel, reamed the chamber and polished the chamber and ramp.



Deburred the breach face, chamfered the firing pin hole, tuned the extractor, polished the breach face and disco track and broke the hard edge between the breach face and disco track. Plus a few other things.

 

Whoa.. im pretty sure you know what youre talking about but are you saying there are not diff length ejectors?

When i was action shooting i used a les baer extended comp ejector to have the shells eject to the right as opposed to the factory performance center shorter ejector that threw the shells back over my head.

The longer the ejector, the sooner the contact as the slide comes back

 

I have several, from a RIA to a Wilson combat. Absolutely Love them all, of course I was raised by a Vietnam Era Marine who always said there were 2 kinds of handguns, 1911's and all that other shit. Awesome weapons, kinda like a glock, except for men.
