You're capable of anything you're willing to put your truck into.

Retreads. Treadwright is the only retread I'd put on my truck.

I realize this, but is the vehicle capable of doing certain areas....like are we going to run into a "waterfall on golden spike" type obstacle?

I don't recall none of you bitches saying anything when Chris and I went through the slab while the rest of you shied away from doing a ride because of a little rain.

And that's what an excuse sounds like. Not wheeling because of overdue maintenance (least of all being a dead battery FML), is more of like a sound reasoning decision

sounds like an excuse to me. I never spend my evenings on the trails if it can be avoided, that becomes dangerous - sound reasoning decision.

So we all know how much I love to talk about loving cars.

I never had the circumstances to have a dad-and-son restoration project on an Olds 442 or an FJ or something like that. My dad bought a rust bucket F100 but shortly thereafter we fell on hard times so we ended up scrapping it to help get by.

Anyways, long short of it is, I went to engineering school with the sole intent of working for an auto brand, doing design, testing, track-side...you know...the holy grail stuff for a car dude. Well obviously I ain't got there yet. Had to turn down an offer from Toyota when I graduated from family stuff. That hurt. But that's life.

Since then it's been increasingly difficult to hear back because of being out of school for 2 years and doing really stupid and non-technical jobs. So I had been trying to figure out ways to work around the typical career path based on job merits.

Two things I immediately thought of. 1. I need to buy books that are used in curriculum from undergrad and grad programs that focus solely on automotive design, and just memorize the things front to back. 2. I figure getting ASE certs would mean a lot to a manager in design or testing areas, but being around enough stuff to really get a handle on the repair and in-depth function of every part is tough without working in a shop or having funds to tear shit apart down to the frame and back up again.

So I went and bought a couple books and have been reading through them (I forgot how much coffee I needed to stay awake through the "here's how we developed this equation" sections). And I simultaneously found an accredited online career school repair tech program that is designed to have you ready to pass your ASE tests when you get your diploma thing.

I've been flying through the online class over the past couple days. When I was in college, I would sit down at 4:30 and start the first problem and keep playing on my phone and doing whatever I could to not do the homework. Before you know it, it's 1:00 in the morning and I've done 3 or 4 problems. With this stuff, I'll sit down at 4:30, read through 100 pages of part functions and typical failures, take the section exam, and before I know it or even think to look at my phone, it's 8:30. Obviously, it makes me happy. It's fun. It's interesting. I feel like I used to when I was young and angry and inspired and would work on music for 24 hours at a time.

Anyways...if you don't have anything that makes you feel like that...find it. It really helps to make life more do-able if you're not really feeling it day to day.

Thanks pal, hope so. I feel like I always jinx stuff, but I may or may not be interviewing for something that would make it easy for me to trade in the Lex on one of those new Type Rs. :anonymous:
