Unless you're taking it in for other warranty work or service , I'm not sure why people are taking them in yet, I'm on the list and haven't been officially told anything . If I didn't belong to TW I would just be a normal customer driving my truck and wouldn't know anything until the Toyota letter showed up in June sometime when the dealers will have all the parts and a detailed fix. Which is what I plan on doing.

I agree with this sentiment but there seems to be half a dozen threads started everyday by average "no TW" Joe who is upset because when they took their truck in for service the dealer hijacked it and left them in a corrola.

I wish I could have taken mine home to put in the garage! It's been sitting outside for over three weeks now at the dealership. Ugh!

Toyota told me I was on my own if it caused further damage by me driving it, leak is minor so I'm not super worried, but am keeping a close eye on it

You didn't sign anything though. Who from Toyota said you were on your own?

I work at the dealership so they were cool with me in general, they had seen the truck and leak is minor, but toyota was acting like I was 100% on my own if they found damage once the remedy is being performed. My SA assured me I would have no issues getting the recall done once its ready, unless my diff grenades which then I have bigger issues away, also highly unlikely

yeah I know what you mean. I wouldnt leave mine at a dealership lot for any longer than a few days. I used to work at a dealership and I know how long term parked vehicles are treated... and honestly
I think I got to take my truck home due to the fact that their lot has limited space.

The 6 to 8 months may possibly how long you would have to wait for them to replace the rear end if it was damaged. See Toyota is only getting the gaskets and bolts ready. They in no way are going to make extra rear ends if they don't know how many need to be replaced.

It is and was the same with the Frame Recall, during the voluntary frame recall, the frame would be ordered, and Toyota would then make it per order, but of course there are hundreds of orders in front and they are not going to spend money to make a bunch at once, looks bad on the quarterly financials. When my 2nd Gen frame was bad, took 9 months to get a new one, and they did a shitty job.

The "remedy" was stated on day one of the recall what needed to be done. It is buried back in previous post on the actual document Toyota sent to the dealers. (No leak tighten bolts, yes leak pull rear and replace gasket and bolts, and if damage replace rear), In fact non recall trucks had the same issue repaired immediately. So so called remedy is the procedural process on how to document, order pats and complete the work, not on what actually needs to be done.

Not to mention, they basically spearheaded the just-in-time manufacturing methodologies. Extra inventory just sitting around is waste and extra cost.

How the hell do they do.a frame recall?!?! Hahaha.... That's nuts. Get a new frame in, and what, disassemble the whole vechile and build it on the new frame? That's hard core.

Yes, first Toyota.... Just sounded funny. Frame recall... I mean isn't it really a total vechile recall at that point.

Seriously, Toyota replaces the entire frame or offers to buy back the vehicle with a pay-off. I wrote up at least 10 of them, when I worked for Toyota as an Assistant Service Manager. They offered good money, even if the vehicle was a total write off and p.o.s.

Yep they stopped buying them back and just started replacing frames. Toyota did a voluntary recall on frames in snow belt states, but just settled a class action to replace all rusted frames on Tundra and Tacomas
