New to TW

Finally joined TW after piggybacking on others threads on the site for various jobs without contributing to the cause. Recently replaced clutch in 09 4.0 SR5 access cab and TW was extremely helpful with many aspects of that Job. Next task is a 3" leveling spacers in front 2" leaf block in the rear as well as a full cooling flush as it's an 09 and the original fluid. Again I'm new and was wondering if there was a full description of the cooling flush procedure, I plan on using the Toyota long life 50/50 coolant.

How do you like the 5100's. Was gonna look at replacing the shocks and struts but budget wasn't there for it when I bought the leveling kit. did you bother with a diff drop?

Yes it was for EatSleepTacos was basically wondering what your thoughts were WRT to the Bilistien's as mine's not a TRD off road was thinking of upgrading to at least 4600's, also before I put lift in I've heard both good and bad WRT Diff Drops! Still on the fence if I'm gonna put them in.

 

I really liked my 5100s, but they have their place. Internally, they are the same as the Bilstein 4600s. The benefit to 5100s is in lifted applications where you don't worry about over extending or bottoming out the shocks.

If you are planning on lifting it, then the 5100s are a fantastic budget solution. I installed 5100s on all 4 corners with the front at 0, Old Man EMU coils on the front (I had 886 but you'd need 884) and an add a leaf in the rear. This ran me about $650 and rides like stock.

 

Right on, I'll do some shopping around, any issues with the VSC or traction control after the lift? I considered the add a leaf option but thought the rear end would be bouncing all over the place seeing as it's already pretty light.

 

I had no issues with VSC, but it it is an issue you can have toyota recalibrate it. Also if you go progressive add a leaf, the rear end won't get any stiffer. From what I understand, you can the lift from the thickness of the leafs themselves, and they have the same characteristics of the stock leaf pack.

Instead of the blocks in the back, add a 3 leaf pack and it will ride and haul better.

2011 w/ 5100/toytech springs, wheelers 3 leaf pack (UCA were not needed), added Camburg UCA anyway. Handles great on and off road, tows and hauls fully loaded like a champ.
