    BULLLLLLLLSHITTT!!

That's what I'm saying about this incident. Total, complete and utter bullshit.

This guy doesn't seem sincere to me. He's in it for the money or for the 15 minutes of fame. This douche knows that they HAVENT been able to find exactly what the issue is so this guy thinks, "I'll make it seem like my accelerator is stuck and since they haven't been able to find out what is causing the problems, and they won't find out what was wrong with mine (since nothing is wrong but the fact that he bought a queerius in the first place) i'll be added to the list for compensation."

If something was malfunctioning on his vehicle then the guy is still a dumbass. The report on the news said that he even tried pulling the gas pedal in case it was stuck with the floor mat. Are you serious????? He can reach down while driving but can't put the damn thing in "N"?

Dude looks like good ol' "WOOOOOOO!!!" himself:D:D

According to the Prius forums, the hybrids have the brake override of the accelerator already. So he shouldn't have been able to press the gas and ride the brakes at the same time.
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...m/76834-accelerator-brake-misinformation.html

The cop that was pursuing him said the brakes were applied and that he could smell the brake pads.

As for not putting it in neutral, we was afraid of accidentally getting it into reverse. It wouldn't do anything if he did get it into reverse but a lot of people don't know that.

The officers responded to his 911 call, not the other way around. He was on the line with 911 long before the cop arrived. There's a 24 minute recording.

Well well... Aren't you a smart lil monkey:p ... proving me wrong and shit., Haha.

I haven't looked to much into it but i dont know, the guy just didn't seem sincere to me. Of course I could be wrong though... But eh, I don't own or know anyone who owns a prius so it doesn't really matter to me.

Hope Toyota finds the reason for the problem though. Whether it's their product or not.

Toyota will find out this guy is full of BS, and when they do they are going to have to make an example of him big time or else this is gonna waterfall and EVERYONE is gonna try for some money.

The recording has the dispatcher telling the driver to shift in to neutral and apparently he didnt respond and later said "he was focusing on steering the car".... ya right

It's a main interstate out of San Diego. He was driving during rush hour; it can be heavily travelled as there are a couple of casinos out there. It rarely jams out there but it isn't unusual for a lot of traffic to be spread out on it. He stopped east of pine valley. Anyone who's travelled to a Pine Valley run or Corral Canyon has been on the freeway (Lakeside to Pine Valley).

It's not a treacherous freeway but I could see how a person used to driving his Prius at 60 mph in the fast lane could be intimidated by 94 mph.

he said he was afraid to put it in neutral and also afraid to turn the key off cause he was leery what the vehicle might do.

Last time I was on that freeway, everyone was doing 90 MPH. At least 85.

At 90 MPH, I can steer my Camry with one finger. Doesn't take much concentration either.

OK, maybe his throttle did get stuck. It's happened on lots of Chevys. Why not a Prius?

But IMO Either this doofus is either too lame to have a license, or just a publicity hound or a crook, or all three.

The speed of the other cars around him was a reason he stated he didn't want to shut it off.

Whether he's lame or not, there still seems to be an issue with the car. As stated above, according to the Prius chat, their cars are equipped with a brake override circuit that would prevent him from riding the brakes while accelerating. It'd be tough to fake without tampering with the car and simple enough to check out. If all 4 brakes are excessively worn, then something is wrong because that shouldn't happen. He could pull the e-brake to wear down the back pads to create the smell but I don't think it would wear out the front brakes as well. It also wouldn't light up the brake lights.

It's actually probably a good thing he didn't turn the car off. While dumb for his own safety, the incident was witnessed by a reliable source that indicate there is indeed an acceleration problem (officer following him noted that his brake lights were on and could smell the excessive brake wear).
