So you are getting $17,700 for the totaled truck, and you are buying it back at $5700 =$12,000 in your pocket before your own repair expenses on the truck ?

If they paid you that much then you got a deal of the century.

It's the story of the century, reality is somewhere else.

They are doing me right. And i did not expect so much. But they go off of local sales and around my area my truck sells for 25k plus regularly. The people that hit me have a baller house so maybe they have some really good insurance package. Plus the agent personal friend variable could be at play. Dont waste your time not believing me. Unless you wanna make a 100 dollar friendly bet..im one of those people that doesnt bullshit.. if i say it. Its gold..

So, at the end of the day, you're giving them $5800 (the "owner retain" price for you to keep the truck), plus the $1000 that you think you'll get but may not, plus the $500 insurance deductible, plus $2500 to fix the cosmetics.

Which effectively means you've structured a deal to pay $9,000 - $10,000 for a salvage title truck that will still have frame damage and that used to have a driveline warranty, but won't any longer.

    Smooth.

you do not pay an insurance deductible if its not your fault.

as for the 1k the (expects to get) I agree.

He is looking at it a different way though. To him hes going to have essentially the same truck but with no money owed on it....

Depending on where you are and the terms of your policy, you often do pay the deductible.

Take my insurance. I pay for a waiver of deductible option on my policy. If I am damaged and I know who did it, I don't pay the deductible (on the collision portion of the coverage only). However, if I was not paying for the optional waiver, I would pay, even if it wasn't my fault and I know who did it. That's the way the policies work, at least in MA.

No, if you look at the math, it's going the other way - the settlement offer covers the tax payment on a new one bought at that price.

The driveline guarantee was like 90 days.
its pretty much up. I will get the 1000. No problem. If you wanna talk whats invested. Ill have the 3k i put down on it to begin with.
Then prob 2500 to fix it. So 5500 total. For a 22k truck i bought like 60 days ago. I know the market on these well in my region ajd i used to sell cars so i know the game.. this truck with a rebuilt title and pics showing the damage was minor would still sell for 15k. All day long in mind shape with low miles. And its not about that. Its about the fact that its fine, still the same truck. With no problems as is driving and no cosmetic issues after i spend a couple thousand. Sure ittll be a rebuilt. So what. Its fine. And 5500 vs. 22000. Yea.

And the frame damage... its literally just the frame where the tow package goes. Has zero to do with the structure or geometry lf the actual suspension or driveline of the truck. The truck is straight as an arrow. Ive driven it quite a bit. Its fine. And the frame next to tow package is superficial and i could drive it forever as is honestly. But ill have it fixed.

My other choice is to have to spend about 27 to 29k for spmething newer with low mileage (nothing older with low mileage on the market) and ill still end up. with a 20k plus loan. And i trust the driveline on this truck so i get to keep my piece of mind and not have to go through the hassle looking through hundreds of vehicles. Half of which are already sold, more than half of which are grossly overpriced. Have no maintenece doc's etc. Etc.

So only did a field estimate that probably was less then 7k damage and decided to pay 16k more based on your concern? It's not too late to be honest

Its all good. I dont need anyones approval or belief. Why shouldn't a person come out ahead once instead of the auction buyers who fix and resell. The value is still there. Im just doing the fixing.. and as i said. Im convincing. I made sure it was a loss. Becaise i assumed they were gonna fix it and give me a couple grand extra at best for loss of value Which means id still be paying 19k over 5 years on a wrecked truck. So i made sure i had it totaled. But once i saw the numbers and figured out i had the option to buy back plus having driven it alot and thoroughly looked under it while waiting to hear about the settlement.. The choice was clear..

The only "if" here is the extra 1000 to payoff coming from them or me. I think ill get it.
