Trans Flash Done...higher idle now

I had the dealer flash in the new transmission shift program yesterday, and right away I noticed that the idle speed was higher than normal.

As the engine warmed up, the idle did kick down, but not as low as it would normally idle in the past. It was going maybe 400 RPM higher than normal when cold and 250 RPM higher when finally warm (about 8 miles later in town traffic.) It took a lot more brake pressure than normal to stop the truck.

I drove the truck to work this AM, and it seemed to idle somewhat lower, and when I took it out again at lunch time it seemed almost normal.

So is this the ECU re-learning?

Did everyone else who did the trans flash experience this phenomonon?

 

Probably is some re-learning. It has been to long for me to remember with any accuracy what mine did post-flash.

I think my rpms are overall lower now though. Which I think is a good thing. Just using the speedometer and no scangauge, I am almost at 70mph and just kissing 2000rpm.

Well, It's only been about 15 miles since I had it done, so it seems better, but who knows what time will reveal?

 

I had the T-SB-0373-09 transmission reflash done and I did not notice any difference in the trucks idle. The reflash greatly helped the 2-1 downshift though.

 

Its to correct some abnormality. Maybe sluggish shifts. I don't know what other issues.

My question is what your the ones having their transmissions flashed, what issues were ya'll having?

 

I'm new here but I wanted to chime in on this thread. I bought a 2010 Tacoma last weekend. I have about 150 miles on it and noticed that when coasting to a stop light, the automatic (5 speed) transmission down shifts too soon, if that makes sense? It feels like the truck is using the gears to slow down instead of just rolling to the stop. Could this flash upgrade be dealing with this? Where can I find more out about it? Anyone else with a 2010 having the same issue?

Yeah I had that same issue with 2-1 downshifts(very noticeable when going around a turn slow) and some times from 1-2 the tranny seemed to just hang in 1st too long before shifting. The TSB was great and fixed all that. I have no complaints with my 2010 now and shifting is buttery smooth.

I am also sorry to thread jack...anyone else experiencing the trans problem on the 05's. I understand the TSB is only out for the 09 and 10 but will the dealership perform the re-flash if i paid them to? Its shifting pretty bad that's why i'm willing to pay. Wish i knew a toyota tech. that would do it under the table. Also is there any difference on 05 ECU AND 09/10 ECU? I love my truck and would love it more if i can get that reflash done so i can have buttery smooth shift like all you 09s 10s out there.

 

Flashing your '05 likely won't do anything becuase it's not an issue for that year. How many miles do you have on the truck? A fluid flush might help you out.

 

Believe it or not i have 29,839 exact miles. Brought it to my local Toyota dealership to get the 30k service done and was told i wouldn't need to replace transmission fluids until 90k to 120k. And a fluid flush is different from a drain and fill right? I assuming the fluid flush is more technical. What do you think, should i just pay the dealership to perfom the fluid flush since reflash might not do anything and or not available.

My 05 is the same way, I hate the 1-2 shift it hold forever. Having some work done at the dealer tomorrow I will once again tell them the trans shifts terrrible and they will say that it shifts great and that is how Toyota designed it to shift. I have actually had 3 dealers tell me that.

 

I tend to agree that the revs seem a little higher , not so much at idle for me but the truck tends to want to stay in a lower gear for longer , prior to the re flash my truck wanted to live in 5th , and would be lugging like crazy before downshifting , but OH SO MUCH BETTER NOW !

my 08 does the same thing. God knows why toyota doesn't help us out.....
